Devon Fox
I am asked to control vermin, so I shoot on sight.
Spara Dritto
I can see both sides, you are there to do a job, but morals instruct otherwise. I know someone will say that their farmer will kick them off if they don't shoot everything they can, but personally I wouldn't shoot that young - each to their own. karpman
Only you can make that decide on this one mate. You there to eradicate the rabbits or fill the pot when you fancy. There not very sporting has to be said but needs must sometimes. Karpman

SakoQuad
In 3-4 months time they start breeding, one pair = 35+ offspring in one year. Great if you shoot for the pot but not if the brief is vermin control!

NIGHT SEARCHER
Theres a good case for leaving a few young i had a cracking rat shoot in glossop on a pig farm. I would go one night a week and shoot 50 to 60 rats a night then the numbers started dropping but the farmer said keep shooting them. It got to the point were i was going up there for 5 hours and not shooting double figures. But was asked to keep going so it got to the point that 5 hours = 4 or 5 rats. I went last week for 5 hours with my night vision with IR looking all round the farm and not one rat to be seen. So what was a very good shoot and fun is now a waste of time. Permission is so hard to come by but having permission with no vermin on it is soul destroying. Now i have got rid of the rats the farmer has put cement in all the rat holes and power washed all the pig sheds. I don`t think the rats will be back. apache
If you can eradicate rats from farms you will never be short of permission.
secretagentmole
I am asked by all my landowners to shoot all rabbits, they cause too much damage to crops, land, buildings (yes you get the swines under foundations or concrete floors), even animals (a rabbit in a paddock can lead to a broken leg on a horse, the scrapes they dig are lethal)! So any size rabbit means dead rabbit. I cannot wipe them out as the permissions are surrounded by land where I do not have permission, shot gunners do, but the shot gunners are only interested in things with wings, not bunnies! So I am the lone sniper at the gates of dawn, stopping the invading hordes with my trusty .22 or .177! Bit poetic that!
Devon Fox
If you can eradicate rats from farms you will never be short of permission. So true, you are obviously doing a better job than poison On our shoot we poison (lots of different types) and have 2 chaps with air guns and nv gear, they kill good numbers between then, but they will never eradicate them (sadly)
mick miller
For me it depends on the location and damage, I prefer to leave them when possible till they get a little bigger but I have one or two places where it really is a case of trying to get rid of as many as possible so their size is irrelevant. Catweazle
I'll happily shoot the young, but if it means scaring everything away for 30 minutes I'll wait for a grown rabbit to come out instead. If I'm packing up and see a baby I'll shoot it straight away.
pestforce
When shooting for money I have to clear as many as possible so young must go but when shooting for fun there is no point wiping out all your sport.
secretagentmole
The thing is my permissions are farmers and paddock owners, for whom any rabbit is loss of money/damage/loss of animal. So although I am a fun shooter I have been asked to adopt the pest controller mentality, luckily I have a falconer who will take all kits I can bag! Aaz
All depends on the permission and what you are there for, on 1 I manage the population as its not over run with them and on the other I take them out as that's why I'm there but for selfish reasons I do take one or two then 'miss' a few as its a great permission and I like going there, as long as I report and show results everyone's a winner
kxkirk
Im a farmer so on my land i will shoot any rabbit i can big or small.
