Cranfield
I guess you already know the Irish tie real flies to hooks and dap them in the breeze using long rods and floss for line? It's supposed to be very effective under the right conditions Yes its actually called dapping and is done with mayflies eg: http://www.mossycreek.com/lough_corrib%20pics.htm I have done that on the Delphi Fishery in Connemara, using live Daddy Long Legs for sea trout. NTTF, I have tried two things in my life, bought the necessary equipment , made a complete mess of everything, decided I have bananas for fingers and sold the whole lot at a great loss. Fly tying and reloading shotgun cartridges. I now buy both "ready made".
Pokes
NTTF , normally a size 10 or 12 hook through the thorax will hold them on just fine.
