deershooter
Right, dont get me wrong I am as patriotic as most but why does the royal cars have no number plates or road tax displayed? whilst working for 16 years for her as a crown agent serving in the Lincolnshire Police I issued hundreds of tickets for this offense . In this current state of economic problems we should all pay our taxes Deershooter

Kes
She pays income tax and never drives herself, except on royal property. Patriotism doesnt extend too far these days - I'm with Artschool.

Yes they display a tax disk but its zero rated. Crown vehicles and there are many, do not display a tax disk, they display a crown exemption if used soley for crown business. Given this crown exemption, I think its the least that could be extended to the CROWN Edited June 5, 2012 by Pheasant Feeder

bedwards1966
That's right everybody, keep taking the yellow stuff... I'm with deershooter on this, it is a matter of 1 rule for them and 1 for us. I've nothing against the royal family, but they don't do anything for us, and the time when anything they do or say has any effect on us is long gone. They are just a family of extremely wealthy people who have a certain title. Why should they not contribute like everybody else? Their cars are still producing emissions, wearing out the road surface and so on. 'She pays income tax' - well she can damn well afford to, she hasn't even earned the money. Many businessmen pay tax on their income, but that doesn't mean they can legally escape these rules, so why should it be any different for royalty? I work hard for what I have, yet someone born into another family inherits more than I am ever likely to have. I don't have an issue with that (it's called life), but why should they then have rules made to suit them as well? Keep the rich rich, and the poor poor. chrispti
It's because all cars registered on the road are "Privately" owned cars under the Crown. Royal cars are publicly owned, that is owned by the crown. Just like police, ambulance and fire vehicles, they display a ''nil'' tax disc. Military vehicles are also tax exempt. I think you are a bit wrong on the they do nothing for this country. Figures i just found with the help of my friend google, google is not always right so forgive me if he has thrown me a curve ball. The Government gave the Queen a total of £7.9 Million pounds in 2011 The Crown Estates profit from 2011 was £244.7 Million. £244.7 Million minus £7.9 Million means that the Government of this country made a profit of £236.8 Million PROFIT from providing the Queen with the Civil List. The Queen also has personal holdings of many millions of pounds. The income from this she pays tax to the treasury. So the Queen could tell the Government to stuff the Civil list and keep her £244 million to herself and then move abroad and not pay any tax at all. The royals also bring in a huge amount of tourists and trade deals to the UK. The UK would be a much poorer place without the royal family and not just money wise. artschool
Maybe crass but its true. I think we should keep the monarchy because they are ment to form a check and balance to our democracy. the only problem is they are more interested in toeing the line and receiving their civil list than stopping politicians wreaking the nation. Dunkield
If you want to get really upset about nothing, spend some time in the Great Park and you will eventually see her driving, and she drives really fast and doesn't get done for it. Your post is a disappointing exposé as to how clueless you are about the royal family and the benefit they bring to the uk. 1) our royal family is the cheapest form of head of state 2) they bring in millions through tourism (think of all the tourists we get simply to see the royals and where they live) 3) they pay millions in taxes 4) they raise millions for charitable causes (princes trust etc) 5) tens of thousands of young persons have benefited from thinks such as e duke of Edinburgh award 6) the royal family has brought long term stability to our great country, enviable by many countries around the world 7) the commonwealth is also a huge benefit to us (without the royal family we wouldn't have the commonwealth) Need I go on? I would also like to point out how lucky you are living in a country with a royal family like ours, I wouldn't mind betting some if what you said would get you put in jail, flogged or even hung! I suggest you think again, hang your head in shame and realise how privileged we all are to have our royal family! God save The Queen!!!
