hendersons
Just had poached salmon on a bed of samphire with new potatoes lovely :) Sounds perfect to me. I think I quite fancy that myself. From the one beach (read mud bath) today I managed to gather alexanders, marsh samphire, rock samphire, orache, sea aster, sea beet and sea lettuce. So all in all a successful day. If the weather was a bit better I think I would still be there now. I'm foraging again tomorrow, so expect the field hedgerow and woodland thread. njc110381
I just put it down to his age... That avatar pic was taken ten years ago when he had hair you know. Sounds like you found some good stuff Nick. What do you plan to make with that lot?
hendersons
I just put it down to his age... That avatar pic was taken ten years ago when he had hair you know. Sounds like you found some good stuff Nick. What do you plan to make with that lot? The rock samphire I'll try pickling and hopefully use it with cheese. The sea aster I'll just cook slow in some butter and perhaps put it with a poached duck egg. It's hard to explain how it tastes. Maybe a bit like asparagus and a bit like sea water or maybe a cross between the two. The sea beet I just use it as greens and cook like spinach. Samphire I'm going to do something a bit like crowman did it maybe with a few mussels too. The orache Im not too sure about yet I'm hoping that it tells me what to do with it. As for the Alexander's ill cook the stems in a vac bag just with butter and because it's started to seed I'm going to see if I can preserve them and make sOmething a bit like capers Edited June 5, 2012 by hendersons
