Is it that bad?

NTTF

No its not bad NT. I just wish I could attach somethink to a stick. Books and onscreen advice dosen't gel with me. I have a good hazel one, 3 years old now and so far it has a rubber stopper fitted to it. I wish I knew how to :good:

It's a great stick NTTF (I know this will open a torrent of 'size ist' abuse from the Coventry Mafia) but how long is it, it looks huge? And do you find the antler a bit uncomfortable to hold or not?

It's will be easy for you LB, you are practical bloke.

You drill down the centre of your stick, and then do the same with whatever you are attaching, then insert a length of threaded steel ( a cut down coach bolt or similar) that needs to be a smaller diameter than the holes you just drilled.

Stuff loads of aradite into the holes, stick the bolt into both holes and force the whole lot together while it dries.

Clean up the excess when it has all set :good:

Here you go found this picture on the web, nice cross section.

I refuse to answer that as My very good Coventry friends :good: would have a field day with it.

It is the camera angle that makes it look extra long, and no I have not found the antler uncomfortable :) I am doing another antler one in the traditional thumb stick. I will post a picture of it soon.

I have a thumb stick, which I mainly use whilst stalking rabbits. It doubles as a rest. I would leave the rubber on the end if the stick is to be practical. I agree that a non-ferrous ferrule looks good, but should you accidentaly catch a rock with the end of the stick, you will probably spook the rabbits etc.

Regretfully, I speak from experience.

I whittled the end of a stick so I could fit part of a 12 bore cartridge on it. Then out came copious amounts of black araldite (mixed in a Eley Wasps tin blackened from melting lead in it for a priest :good: ) that unceremoniously stuck it on.

The shank was made from Horse Chesnut that I picked up when I was 10 and took it upon myself to cut the bark off near the top of the shank for a handle. :good: I have since sanded it down to reduce the amount of splinters you would get from it everytime you picked it up. :yp: So far it has only been used once and that was for chasing a cat that wasn't ours and wanted a goldfish from our pond that was in the garden. :)

It's also 3ft high. :no::lol::lol: :o ;););):P

Nice stick NTTF! :)

I beginning to wish I didn't reply to your post NT :good:

I have a marble thumb rest to mount on the stick coming shortly. Do any of you know if marble can be tapped with a dye?

Duly noted Webber :)

I will have to make do with wearing my 'leccy ear defenders when at Pavmans Highlander :good:

Course you can...how do you think all those 'bits' get stuck on those roman statues :yp: Venus de Milo lost her arms because the metal screws rusted away :good:

:good: I guess I asked for that.

You don't need to tap it LB just drill a oversized hole and then glue the threaded rod in (if you don't want to come apart that is) they used threaded rod so the glue grips it better.
