bakerboy
I went out this afternoon to shoot over Stubble for the first time this season. I set up at 4.15 and at 4.25 had 3 in the bag, a left and right and a high but dropping incoming bird great, I think this going to be a lovely afternoon. The birds decoyed as if they had read the rule book. I shot like I had never shot before, and I mean never shot before For 100 shots I hit 52 birds (all picked ) but could I hit the easy close incoming birds? "NO" The birds were coming in, in small flocks 10/15 at a time, if there had been 2 guns in the hide we would have had a Big Bag certainly 100+ I was so disgusted with my shooting that I was swearing and moaning at myself , which really did not help , at 7.15 I gave up and went home , and as ever the birds were coming in as I dismantled the pattern . Lots of excuse, something on my mind, i knew I should have been doing something else, I had been running around like a blue rst fly all morning, but at the end of the day it was, and is down to me. Well, no more pigeon shooting for me now until Monday 30th, lets hope all my friends do better than me. Terry

pigeon controller
DB and I take it in turns to shoot and the easiest way to shoot like a lemon is for one of us to say" Don't miss this one". The worst shots are the confident birds as they tend to float in and you end up following them. The best method is to wait till they are in range and MOVE, MOUNT and SHOOT. Terry Thats still better than 2:1 mate which is better than my average, nothing to be ashamed of in my book. As for the really close birds i usually dont shoot at em too close, let them get to 20+yds as theres no time for the shot to 'pattern' at close range. Terry I think sometimes it is easy to get complacent about shooting the easy ones , your convinced the bird is in the bag before you pull the trigger and end up poking the gun at them instead of swinging through , but two for one is still not a bad average , at least you seem to have plenty of birds in herts at the moment, and I am still waiting for my first stubble of the year (no barley on my permissions). PhilR
I spotted you on my way home. I reckon you should see a competent coach and have your gun fitted Terry, as I was packing up someone else started shooting on that field somewhere to my left, they put up a rake of birds. I finished up on 20 pigeons and 2 crows for 46 shots.

Cosd
You wasn't shooting like a novice on Friday mate! In fact I witnessed the complete oposite. You did some great shots. You get those days sometimes. I said on Friday I started the day shooting quite well then after about an hour and a half my shooting just got terrible. For half an hour it was as though it was my fisrst time shooting. Missing birds everywhere, and the thing was as I was pulling the trigger I knew I was off target. Very frustrating. Don't beat yourself up about it, you'll be back with a vengeance! How comes you're not shooting till the 30th? I finished up on 20 pigeons and 2 crows for 46 shots. That was good going, and there must be better to come. The birds were following the Combine, and there was a good steady stream. I will admit to getting really frustrated and blaming everything from the gun to the cartridges, me thinking about this weeks course, getting home to get ready and revise. But at the end of the day I missed birds that I really should have nailed, I hit distance and high birds, so it was not the gun or the cartridges. Maybe I was a bit like the Australian Golfer of yesterday  The gun fit you are probably correct, the Hatsan has a low comb and with my funny eye dominance it is a problem. I shoot well with the Hatsan when I start using it but after a few days complacency sets in and the wheels fall off ( and that is probably the best excuse yet ) so I better stop there. Have a good week you can get me on the phone up 8.45ish tomorrow if you want me. Terry or are you just boasting If I was boasting I would not have mentioned the easy birds I missed, just the hard birds I hit

Fatcatsplat
Well, I went decoying on Saturday and had a dozen birds for almost 40 cartridges, which i was reasonably disgusted at - On the way back to the car i loaded all the gear up and took the dog for a last run before home - Had 3 shells in the pump and in the 5 minutes we were walking we had birds comig over the trees and i finished the day on 3 birds for 3 very opportunistic and quick shots. I genuinely think that the more thinking time you have the worse you shoot.
