amishboy
I have a budget of £500, can anyone reccomend a good Clay Pigeon o/u 12 bore around this price (Could go higer for second hand if I knew exactly what I wanted) Currently I use an IGI Domino but the lower barrel pin needs a good seeing to by a Smith as it non fires around 1 in 10 shots which is a pain in the ****! If anyone actually has something they want to sell I live in Gwent. Sincrely Lawson

Thunderbird
Get yourself down to the Sportsman's in Newport (if it's still there) and go and try a few out.
HDAV
A bale in Cardiff have a decent smith or had, gun choice isn't great tho couple of others to try are CS sporting in cwmbran and Phil ash at kenfig hill, don't be too tempted by cheap new guns Morgan Pointer etc if you can hang out for a better known make add Winchester to the list above and IMO Franchi and lanber
Mungler
For that money go second hand multichoke Mrikou. Find a bit more dosh and go second hand multichoke Beretta. End of.

Lord Geordie
Your firing pin may just have burr or some swarf in the hole. It could take you 30 mins to DIY. Last pin job I heard about was around £45 at the smiffy. £500 should see you get a second hand Miroku but a Beretta may need a tad.more unless your either LUCKY or find one shot out. Good shooting depends more on correct gun fit and technique than how much your gun costs. There are of course NEW guns you can obtain for around your budget and infact I have been looking at a one recently! A brand new 410 O/U in black onyx turkish walnut stock for £400. I have been tempted for some months now but funds dictate otherwise

joecash
best to go to a clay shooting ground and talk to people xx theyre a friendly lot xx see if you can find an instructor there xx theyll talk to you xx b4 u buy a gun make sure you know what your doing or pay a professional to help you xx dont rely on gun shops they will only point u in the direction of what they have in stock xx otherwise you may end up with the equivalent of del boy grabbing a handful of coat at the back and saying its wonderful fit xx look at cpsa website xx theres a super publication you can download for free on there xx at least u could about 4 month ago xx gather information it may be tedious but if youve only got £500 it will be time well spent xx im a newbie myself so treat my post with extreme caution as a little knowledge is a dangerous thing Edited August 18, 2012 by joecash
terrior
Hello I learned the hard costly way. I bought a 30" beretta brand new because i liked it, but just could not get on with it. After a few more tries dropped on a 32" browning which suites me well. Try as many different guns you can before you buy , go for a gun that fits and the weight is right for you rather than price. cheers............... amishboy
Oddly enough I ended up with a Beretta and hated it! I sold it on for what I paid, sorted the Domino's pin problem out and am a lot happier with it than the 686 with my clay average back up to 66%. I just do not like Berettas! Thanks for all the advice, chaps! Amishboy
DrQ
If you can get hold of a Browning 325 for that kind of money, and they are around..... It would be perfect for you.
amishboy
Thanks for the advice re the browning. I think I will stick to the Domino for both rough and clay and just buy an old side by side farmers special for laughs. Just bought a BSA Sprite 12g and Potters Art of Gunsmithing to teach my self a bit of repair work by taking apart and reassembling the thing. I am recovering from a serious illness at the moment so need to occupy my time indoors for the next few months and this seems an ideal way! Probably start making flys soon when I get bored of the smithing!!!! Happy shooting everyone and thans for the advice from all of you!
