sitty tree
hello fella. your in prime wildfowling land . there are loads of clubs up there that im sure could help you out. just google wildfowling in scotland/borders. loads to choose from. good luck fella and remember if on the foreshore study the tides/wind before you venture out on the flats. no duck /goose is worth risking your life for. ps do lots of field craft .and there are plenty of fowlers young and old on this site that will always give you good advice. hope this helps from a seasoned fowler.(lol)
Pole Star
Must be some freebe bits on the foreshore near you or club run areas I not too sure if its still a free for all on some parts of the solway but there must be some one on here who can advise you ? see if BASC can help you , I shot a part of the solway with a guide years ago but that was in January & it was heavily shot , Good luck . TJ91
are you wanting real wildfowling? if your a member of BASC ask for a copy of their permit booklet...you could get a permit for a few areas on the solway, montrose, eden and more
Tam
Looking to give it a try can anyone help with were to go and other info ? Do you have a dog (if you don't it restricts you somewhat :( ) go down your nearest tidal water at day break & dusk, look for a regular flight pattern If you find one position yourself bellow the high water mark Wildfowling is about observing nature in it's finest hours & if you manage a shot at a goose or duck treat it as a bonus
big bad lindz
Hi Dave, As Hamilton is almost bang smack in the middle between the west & east coast fowling areas you would have to set off early in the morning or have an overnight stay some place. As TJ91 has mentioned Montrose or the Solway both operate some sort of permit system. I do not think there many areas on the inner Clyde estuary and its bit heavely populated. If you could get away with it Strathclyde park would be great for the ducks. As mentioned BASC have details on there website and booklet, if you are a member try droping them an email at the Scottish office I have always found them helpfull in the past. There is the East of Scotland wildfowling club and when I last looked there web site had some good information and they are always looking for membership. If you are going to go it alone as Tam mentioned you will need to spend some time looking around for areas and observing any potential flight lines for the geese going inland to feed and access to the shore. For inland goose shooting and duck flighting there are again a number of options. If you are wanting to give it a try you might look up some of the goose guides, again search the web, the costs vary but around £60 for a morning flight. Although fowling on the shore is something realy special and takes a bit of time and dedication. Another options is if you know any farmers that may have geese flighting into there land. I am spoilt for choice, I have miles of foreshore that I can shoot on and also have access to inland decoying but at over a 400 mile round trip from Hamilton could be a bit much. Good luck on your quest and let us know how you get on. Be warned once the bug bites !! BBL

Oh ! & if the storms get up you could be trapped here or there for a few days trying to get across the Pentland firth ! I had to sit in a hotel in Scrabster for 3 days once just waiting to get home !. A bit nearer for Dave- M though Good luck if you try . . Look foward to meeting up again this season Shakin, Dont know what your plans are hopefully may fit in with my work rota. I am intending to go down on Sat morning (to that area where I should not tell anyone about ) . The tides are all wrong, it will be at its very lowest for a morning flight but I know the geese are flighting into the fields behind the big tall rocks (code for mound). I may go decoying (with my mate in the wheelchair) or an early morning walk from the car park.
shakin stevens
Got two trips in the pipeline one for a week and for two weeks, so im sure we can sort something out, yes that spot needs a good tide to move them off the shore. im sure you will get a shot off or two, keep up the coded messages it all makes sense to me and leave a few for me, see you at the bridge second layby on the left in the next few months!! big bad lindz
Is Dornoch any good? It's not thaaat far from me but didn't think it was worth a 9 hour trip :o HHi Wildfowler 250, How not thaaat far is that. Around Dornoch there a number of areas to access the shore and as you would expext with wildfowling no 2 days are the same. I have spent time in some areas where you can see and hear the geese are roosting but when they flight you could be in the wrong palce. If you have the shore to yourself and under the flight line for that day then good sport can be had. If there is someone else further up the shore and lets a shoot off sometimes all the geese will flight up. Its not to bad for Widgeon so I have been told I have never been to successfull with ducks on the shore. The Dornoch firth is very flat unlike the marches down south and not to many great places to set up and no cover unless up in the gorse sand dounes so some netting & poles are required.. Drop me a PM if you want some more details. BBL
