lee-kinsman
An aquaintance has offered me a 5month springer bitch and told me to make him a reasonable offer. The Sire is a FTCH and the Dam a FTW. What is a reasonable price for such a pup? Thanks, Lee Edited September 6, 2012 by lee-kinsman
rimfire4969
Never easy. You can find pups for sale from around £250 up to about £600 Can you not just have a chat with him and agree between you.
lee-kinsman
Yes of course but since the bloke is only an aquaintance I don't want to say £250 and he feels like I'm taking the **** and insulting his intelligence and his dog. al4x
a lot depends why he is selling, if its not made the grade and has no pedigree with no training then its only worth a small amount. However if it is full pedigree and well on with basic training and for sale through no fault of its own then its more
rimfire4969
Yes of course but since the bloke is only an aquaintance I don't want to say £250 and he feels like I'm taking the **** and insulting his intelligence and his dog. ATB, Lee All you can do is make an offer of roughly what you want to pay, if he wants more he can say so. As mentioned above a lot depends on the dog, does the guy work dogs or do trials maybe he thinks the dog is not going to make the grade for trials but it could still be a good gundog, has he done any basic training. I would start the conversions with "I don't want to offened but how about £XXX" and see where it leads.
eccles
If the sire is a FTCH and dam FTW a pup should cost you £400 to £500 as she is 5 months old at least £500+.Have a look on the gundog sites that will give you a good idea. darren m
well if he says make an offer mate. offer what you think its worth , every one wants a bargain and why should,nt you . the worst he can say is no . i would start with £300 and gauge the reaction . the price of springers and cockers as gone through the roof just lately , you just have to look at some of the sites every one wants top money and a lot of the dogs are'nt even parent proven ( especially on non gundog sites ) , just because somewhere down the pedigree it says FTCH of this or that , i think its gone crackers . offer what its worth to you !! eccles
Hi Lee did your friend breed this dog or did he buy it in. I agree with Darren on the price of pups from non gundog sites asking £500 + for poor pedigrees when you can buy one off a good dog trainer+ breeder for the same money. As to the price of good springers i was paying £300 + 20 +years ago so they ain't gone up that much good un now £400 + so not gone up that much.ATB Terry
scutt
are you looking for a new pup or is it just that you have been offerd one do your home work have a good look at this pup and the bloke who is selling it a lot of bad habits can be picked up in 5 months and if you are a novice at gundog training it will make it harder for you to train this pup also sit and look at how it moves and intercacts with you best advice from me would be take someone with you to look over this pup after all you may have this dog for 15 years.as for price as i say do you homework £300/400 will get you a solid gundog pup. lee-kinsman
Yes I'm looking for a new pup, there are well over 40 ftch in the pedigree, the bloke runs the pups dam in trials himself, the dam which is his was FTW last year and the sire is FTCH Clearmeadow Flash. He has a pup left that he was going to keep and he said if i'm interested to make him an offer. I'm confident the breeding is good. Just wondered what people might think is reasonable without being cheeky. That way if he says no I can quietly blame all you Thanks for advice thoughI appreciate what your saying. WGD
I would offer £400 for that pup. The asking prices for pups may have gone through the roof but there is also plenty of top breeding being sold for middle of the road money. vixen.
£400 sounds fair to me for FTCH x FTW. That's pup price for a well bred springer, I see a lot of champ to winner (or less!) bitch pups at £450 at 8 weeks old
