swiss.tony
.223 is 6 months old today and has had a hard life with 475 rounds put down it whats the life span on a sporter barrel ?
al4x
just keep using it, its hard to wear them out if you clean them properly. 2000 on a .223 should be a minimum just depends what accuracy you need and how hot the loads you use are. MiLisCer
My Remi 700 in 223 is almost 15 years old, it has fired thousands of rounds on both the range and at foxes - it still shoots sub minute of angle with factory ammo and even better with homeloads. coyotemaster
No worries Tony, you can shoot a .223 a whole bunch and never see any throat erosion, which is what most call barrel wear. I routinely measure mine after each season and have never seen any change. If you are just hunting with it you probably won't wear it out in your lifetime. kent
its a case designed for full auto fire, more likely you will do it in with corrosion than errosion, Lack of or bad cleaning practices. Its the best thingf about small centrefires in .
pigeon pete
your know when its shot out when you cant hit anything with it lol you got loads of life left ,is it a chrome lined barrel ? and you dont have to clean your bore if you use modern nitro powders ,only about 150 rounds then clean it
dannywayoflife
I would have thought that with modern steels and powders you will struggle to ever shoot out a 223 barrel. Certainly if your mainly using it for Charlie as the barrel wont be getting the shot strings that you do from range work.
Dekers
It will depend on the twist, ammo weight/type you put through it, your rapidity of shot, cleaning regime, storage etc etc etc etc, with good care a lot more than your 400+ shots! Mine is just over 2000 and excellent still. :good:
