bicykillgaz
Just bin and got another webley bolt action .410 and asked for a box of eley fourlong, I was expecting no6's but when I got home realised they was actually no5's I didn't even know they existed. So my question is does anyone use them and how do you find them? Atb Gary

Floating Chamber
I reckon he means 'pattern'. A better pattern with 2.3mm pellets than with the larger 2.8mm No. 5 shot. Mind you, in the very early 1960s, I did prefer No. 5 shot. They were ( I was) deadly on pigeons and in one instance, I bagged a hare with them. M.I.A
Sorry should of been a bit clearer, they pattern quite poorly in my experience probably due to lack of pellet count For all the range a 410 is useful for 7.5 will provide a better, denser pattern Edited October 5, 2012 by M.I.A
Floating Chamber
As above. (I'm old, I type slowly!)
bicykillgaz
I'll pattern them in the morning I think, I'm sure they'll do till I can afford to stock up with something different. Who makes 7.5's? Edited October 5, 2012 by bicykillgaz
M.I.A
My preferred cart generally speaking and for ease of availability is lyavale 2 1/2" 14g no 6' there plastic wad so do pull a slightly better pattern than the eley as they are fibre
sitsinhedges
I'd rather hit a bunny with two 5s rather than four 7 1/2's and I'd put money on the 5's stopping it better.

I'll not be shooting at rabbits unless it's stupidly close range, its only really gonna be used in the woods for squirrel and the odd roosting bird, but I agree with what your saying I'd trust 5's over 71/2's on rabbits but I should think for my uses 71/2's might actually be ok. bigman
use gamebore 7s in mine at present they stop the bunnies at 25y just fine
Rimfireboy
7.5's are better in a fourten, 5's don't pattern very well as said. You can't shoot far with a fourten anyway, so anything gained by the extra carrying power of heavier shot is fairly pointless anyway. Fourtens are hedgerow guns and designed for close range use. It's a decent pattern you need to look for from a fourten and that's not easy. I've given up shooting at rabbits with a fourten, find them unsuitable and more likely to wound than kill a rabbit unless they aren't more than twenty yards away. Fourlong's are the only carts that I've found really quiet in my modded fourten, so the only ones I use now.

bicykillgaz
Fc, That's eventually the plan but I want to get a multichoke o/u .410 first so I can find best choke for best loads and shot size etc, my old Annie .410 was choked at 1/4 and patterned really well with fiocchi magnums 19g 6s so choke obviously makes a huge difference to the .410 pattern as my old baikal full choke was really poor with more than 14g of no6 up it.
