Man-o-woods
I want to extend the stock on my sons 12 bore shotgun. I need to extend it by 50mm and dont want to use wood as it never looks good. I thought about using Vulcanite but cant find anywhere that supplies it in 50mm thickness. Can anyone advise where i can get it from. Thanks m-o-w
Cumbrian
How about a nice piece of horn, if you fancy a bit of diy? It is entirely traditional and would look great. Available in different thicknesses.
Gordon R
T and J McAvoy Standish Wigan. They had vulcanite up to about 3" a couple of years ago. I was assured they could do any thickness.
triumphant59
50mm of vulcanite will look a pigs ear. I would suggest a colour matched wooden extension is the best option
Gordon R
I agree about the look of vulcanite. Okay up to 25mm, but after that - it is a bit naff.
sanibel686
look for a black walnut "bowl turning" block on ebay it should be enough to get you two pieces
Big Marty
Would a Kick Ezze not be enough to bring you up 50mm. Have fitted a couple Iam happy enough.....
Albert 888
Just a thought, what about the adjustable but pads that fit on rifles sold by bisley products. Fit one to the hw and looks and feels very good after a bit of work Ps what i vulcanite.
steve_b_wales
To extend the stock on my rifle, so that I could use a NV scope, I fitted one of those slip on rubber stock sleeves, with a 50mm piece of shaped wood inside the sleeve. It may not have looked 'smart', but it did the job without having to damage the stock itself. Plus, when I did'nt use the NV scope, I just removed the sleeve. welshwarrior
I used a Kickeez 1.2 inch and a 6 mm spacer to do mine
Man-o-woods
Cheers guys. All good advice. Gordon R
There is another solution. Graco do a stock extender which can be adjusted as your lad grows. They look professional and will not detract from the gun's value, unlike the other solutions. You can also add a hard butt plate or recoil pad, very easily. Dearer than vulcanite, but easier to get the finished product on a DIY basis. If that is the route you end up going down - don't buy an expensive one. i know where you can get one for a whole lot less. http://www.graco-corp.com/t/adjustable-butt-plate
coyotemaster
M-O-W You may need to adjust the comb up a bit as lengthening the stock will move his face down the stock a bit increasing the drop in the stock and the tendency to make it shoot a tad lower than before.
