SX-TERMINATOR
I am looking to buy an FAC shotgun, fancy something a bit out of the ordinary.... Have heard of an american company called Kel-Tec who make a 15shot (7+7+1) shotgun Looks good (barrel on top of two mag tubes in a triangle arrgt.) but is rather a short gun... 18.5" barrel length 26.1" overall length Does an FAC shotgun have to meet certain barrel / overall lengths as per a section 2 ? Will use the gun for close range pigeon control at an industrial grain terminal, so choke not a problem. Any help would be much appreciated. Andy H
It must have a barrel length of at least 24" and be no less than 40" overall for pump's and auto's but for o/u , sxs single etc the barrel must be greater than 300mm and be 600mm overall length , Anything less than the above dimensions changes from section 1 and delve's into section 5 realm's. I'm pretty sure that ANY shotgun must have a barrel length of 24" or greater, and an overall length of 40" or more. There is no exemption for any type of gun Home office guidance states : 2.5 When considering the classification of smooth-bore guns, special attention must be paid to the length of the barrel and the overall length. With the exception of those chambered for .22 rimfire cartridges, the 1988 Act raised to the prohibited category (see Chapter 3) all self-loading and pump-action models which are either short-barrelled (under 24 inches) or short in overall length (under 40 inches). Mikaveli
Semi or pump shotguns must meet the 24" / 40" length requirements - no getting round that in either S1 or S2 form. If either measurement drops below that, they're Section 5 (prohibited) weapons. Section 2 (but non-semi/pump) shotguns still need a barrel length of at least 24". Below that, (but above 12") they're Section 1 Firearms.

No mention of any other action types, i.e. SbS, O/U and lever-action. Any shotgun which is not self-loading or pump-action and has a barrel length of less than 24" fall into the S1 length restrictions as in Andy's post The question is, why would you want one of these?? They're slow to load so would be of no use for PSG/TSG, you'd get 'funny' looks at the clay ground, ALL Kel-tec guns are poorly finished and most drop to bits, it would cost a fortune to get one sent over here and couldn't use it for anything other than pigeons/rabbits? If you want something ridiculous but can be removed to leave you with a usuable shotgun, get one of these X-rail contraptions!
Mutiny
That X-rail setup looks insane! If I could think of any way to justify it to myself I'd buy one, but I can't foresee any situation when I'd need more than the 8 cartridges my shotgun already holds. Guess it would be good for PSG

This is correct. I'm pretty sure that ANY shotgun must have a barrel length of 24" or greater, and an overall length of 40" or more. There is no exemption for any type of gun No, you can have something other than a pump or semi within the 'normal' S1 dimensions. A more common example of this would be .410 shot pistols, often used for very close vermin or for the destruction of caged foxes.
robbiep
Many thanks for the correction on this. At the risk of heading a bit off-topic, .410 shot pistols. S1 I assume ? Easy to get hold of ? I only ask because I seem to be doing more and more fox trapping and killing, and I'm seriously considering a .410 of some sort for the coup-de-grace. 12bore is a little overkill at 18 inches range, you know

I know they are around, but as to how many RFD's have them available for sale I've no idea as I've never had any need or real interest in them.
