why not come up with an argument for higher mag thats convincing instead of just being plain rude. No my knoledge dont all come from the internet- how the heck can i prove that? do you wish to see my Level 2 cert passed almost a decade ago? I have already stated i am willing to take the stupid coconut test. How the heck do you know you have shot more than "most" people if you realy have i thought you might be able to come up with a few concreate facts and a more convincing argument in what should be a debate not a childish tiff

You just cant win but remember for every finger you point out there are maybee two pointing back at you.

To make it clear and i have stated this before I think 300 yds is too far on the lamp for safe and precise shooting, ranges are never definate, you cant see the wind or always identify the nature of the backdrop. In daylight i have shot much further out than 300yds though and it didn't take large amounts of magnification to do it either.

300 yards at night is not the norm, far from it infact i think i have only shot 3 maybe 4 at that range this year.Anything that is at that sort of range i am very sure of the range because i use a rangefinder first.I know the land very well so backstops are not an issue.

Like someone said it is a choice issue so i will stick to what works for me and was trying to advise the op not get into "another" pointless argument with you.

p.s. Level 2 what ?

A T3 laminate/stainless .243 a lot of my shooting is around the 300m mark. Crows/rabbits ect I like to set up at that range if possible.

Now if we are talking 243 then an 8x or 12x on top of it is a good choice ! As i would want it mainly for deer and the odd fox.I chose a higher mag scope for my 22-250 as i wanted it almost solely for foxing. The rifle is a winchester coyote stainless with laminate stock and with the scope and bipod on weighs about as much as a small car,but i intentionally wanted it that way as almost all my foxing is done from the bonnet of my jeep and as the op asked for a scope for 22-250 for foxing that is why i say a higher mag scope would be better suited.

As for kent asking to put a good reason for higher mag on a scope, well forget the scope and think of it this way would it be easy to hit a drawing pin at 40 yards with open sights ?(i just know he is gonna say yes)and would it be any easier to hit that drawing pin if it was the size of a tea plate ?Also kent i say i have probably taken more fox than most because for the last 16 year i have been involved at the same shoot of which i have kept a record of foxes taken for the last 10 year before that i worked my terriers for a hunt, before that i ran lurchers on foxes.so i have taken them with terriers, lurchers shot them with shotgun rifle and even pistol so that is why i said i shot more than "most" on here because i probably have.

RIGHT BOYS

why on earth do threads like this turn into an argument?

Just give good advice which the OP has asked for and be done with it! (thanks bullet boy)

All i wanted was a bit of help with what scope to upgrade to, i know we all have opinions

I was just trying to get a feel what is the most used scope, NOT A ARGUMENT WHO CAN SHOOT WHAT AND AT WHAT RANGE

Cockercas, how do you find the zeiss Duralyt.night and day? What one have you got?

Having used a variable scope and getting on very well with it,

so i will be sticking with variable

But what make i dont know

what sort of budget is probably the biggest factor in choice if you are contemplating the zeiss then keep a good look out 2nd hand there are some bargains about at the moment. One on the SD with illuminated ret sold for £650 in hours but they do crop up, the bonus of buying one 2nd hand is were you ever to want to sell they very rarely loose money.

Hi all

I am after a new scope for my 22-250 i use it for foxing day and night at reasonable distances

at the mo i have a Bushnell 8x16x50 on, its is a m8 scope and he wants it back to go on a gun :sad1:

what would you recommend?

i have been looking at s&b 8x56 But i dont know about using fixed power scope

Mark

Out of curiosity what is that, and how did you get on with it?

it was a bushnell banner 6x16x50 (not a 8X sorry) and got on well with it

:hmm: :hmm: Ok, I'm not familier with that either, but there are a couple of 6-18x50 Bushnell Banners available for under £150 NEW, if you liked it then why not simply buy your own, seems a lot cheaper option than most mentioned here! :good:

Its the ?x-12x IR. Its pretty spot on. I'd definitely go for the IR if you want to shoot at dusk. I've never used the IR under the lamp as there's no need. I use the IR for shooting rabbits at last light and only a small dot illuminates.

Have a look on uttings mate. If you qualify for the credit you can get it for £35 a month 0%APR

I use a varable scope like i said on my .22-250 but its normally set on 10x power.

If you got good eyes the 8x power of the S&B 8x56 is good enough. My mate garygreengrass uses his S&B 8x56 to great effect on Foxes. Its a brilliant scope IMO.
