excellent drawings/ paintings scully :) I have started my first oil painting and its taking weeks because of the drying time between layers :(

Many thanks.

Winsor and Newton make fast(er) drying oils called Alkyds, which are very good.I use acrylics as opposed to oils because of the drying times you've mentioned. You can't blend them to the same extent as oils, but I'm too impatient for oils.Post a pic when you've done.

Thankyou.I've been drawing since I was a kid,and started painting in watercolours in my early twenties. It is a frustratingly difficuilt medium for a beginner, but for some reason it's usually the first medium chosen by beginners!

A friend and me run a club locally, and we always start beginners off in acrylics as it's more forgiving. If you want to see some superb examples of her work(especially dogs) I'll see if I can post some of her work up.

  • 3 weeks later...

Not mine i'm afraid but I really like this li'l picture that someone called 'Julia' painted..

We were at the local dog/cat charity shop, I saw it and had to have it!!

I think it's acrylic and is applied with a knife in parts as it's very thick in places...
