beatingisbest
Right first off, i have just sent off my application for a shotgun licence. Fulltimeshooter told me before hand that i couldnt shoot alone until i reached the age of 17, i asked around a bit some said you can some said you cant. I phoned the BASC and they said that you can if you are 15 and over and sent me a document stating this. I thought great, finally its solved, until today fulltimeshooter says to me that he has phoned the Hampshire Constabulary and they said that you cant shoot alone until you are 17 because of their 'policy' which in only in hampshire. CAN ANYONE HELP ME, CAN YOU OR CANT YOU, PLEASE HELP!!!
Ferret Master
Hi, I think if you have your bit of paper from the BASC to show if challenged then just go for it. Or just move to Wiltshire. FM
mossy835
if you go a gainst the police you could be in trouble, but take the paper from the basc with you.
Cranfield
I would ask the Hampshire Constabulary for their decision in writing. Then send a copy of it to the BASC.

Hunter
You can still get your licence Im sure, but wether you have to shoot with someone older is another thing. I have heard of very young kids with SGC's..
gunner
i think you have to get basc involved if you want to solve this , i think there is no other choice from what i read in most of the shooting magazines some police depts can be a pain in these things . but do not give up fight for your shooting rights
reefman
Just play ball and get your certificate,That will be very easy. Once you have it,Hit them with your reasoned argument.Otherwise you will delay what you originally set out to do. Additionally you can also strenghthen your argument with evidence of safe use of the gun, letters of appreciation from farmer etc saying what a great bloke you are for clearing the bunnie's etc etc. Once presented with a good case on your part it will difficult for them to refuse you. Reefman (sorry Reefman not calling you stupid!) But I do have to agree... I personally wouldnt try fighting it until you have your licence.... once you have your licence then go ape on them! Axe
I gotta agree with that, get your certificate before all else. Once you got it, as Cranfield mentions, get them to put this in writting and then contact BASC to have them deal with it for you. Above all, don't just take a copy of a BASC letter into the field in the hope you get away with being challenged. Ignorance of the law will just serve you poorly and could wind you up in a whole heap of problems.

I had my shotgun and my shotgun licence at the age of 15 but i could not go out alone until i was 17, i remember this for sure as its the year i started driving, so i could drive out to shoots by myself too. Thats what the law states regardless of what area you are in.
Ferret Master
Hi, The law states you can use a shotgun on private premises when you are 15 providing you have a SGC and permission. http://www.met.police.uk/firearms-enquiries/age.htm that is the met website and they clearly state that from 15 years of age you can own a shotgun. FM I see no where in there stating that a person of 15 can use (without supervision by a 21+ SGC holder) can use a shotgun un-supervised even on private land.
