countryman
Hi So we have switched from BT broadband, phone and BT vision TV to Sky, the sky team sort out all the transfers from BT to sky, the engineer comes out to fit the dish for the tv in what i thought would be a simple matter.Wrong. He tells me that as we have trees around its blocking the signal and can not put the dish up, so no TV. What, why not do a check first for a signal before finishing us with BT. I told them that i had agreed for the whole package not part of it, and if they can not provide that they should put me back with BT, the guy on the phones attitude was nothing like when we were signing up with them, saying that i would have to sort it out with BT my self, i am going to let the wife talk to them again when she gets home from work as i could find myself getting into trouble here. Chris Bb
Leaving BT always seems a good idea. Until you have a line fault and discover that BT's monopoly on line & exchange provision means that your repair always goes to the back of their queue and you can be without a phone line or broadband for 3 weeks+. That's the only reason that we're back with BT, if you can get past their Indian call centres you'll be reconnected ASAP.

Chris Bb
Has anyone else come across this before, it beggars belief Chris No, but i can well believe it, we're served by incompetents all the time. Largely it's down to "you pay peanuts, you get chimpanzees".

Its open reach who manage the network (albeit a division of BT) I was with BT took six weeks yes six weeks to supply me with a line after moving (so much for existing customer care) we are in the 21st century are we not!! and after a fortnight the new line went down for 6 days asked about a reduction in bill for loss of service told I could have something off line rental, I am now with sky who so far have done everything they say,and a sight cheaper to, but yes sky use open reach as well. countryman
When i went to see how he was getting on he was at least 60 yards from the house with the dish and he said he still could not get a signal, how on earth does anyone use SKY then. Imperfection
Atleast he was honest-the Sky chap who initially stuck my dish up put it directly behind the only tree in my garden.Needless to say they were back out very soon afterwards moving it.I have found if you get Skys own employees they're alright, but the subbies are poo. Im not with them now however as i went back to Virgin.
Scottoj18
I worked for a company that does sky installs the leopard vans... Lazy installers! they don't get payed much per install so if they can't get a signal for the ground they cancel ... Some of the story's are unbelievable! HDAV
Has anyone else come across this before, it beggars belief Chris Trees, yeah seen them before, you expect sky to keep detailed topographical maps of the entire country? Basic issue is yours.....a higher dish with higher gain dish will likely get a signal... But will need a specialist installer.
countryman
So you work for sky then
HDAV
Nope never have, never would..... I do proper installs not surface mounted bodge jobs by the lines of AVC and sky subbies..... But then I charge real money...
countryman
I still do not think it is unreasonable to expect what you have been offered and paid for, if SKY can not install the dish they should sort it with BT and put me back with them.. HDAV
Nothing to do with sky (would you really want a company to be able to services up in your name billed to you?) all you need to do is ring BT and explain and ask to go back.... countryman
Well the so called SKY team are pretty quick at getting you off BT. just had a call from SKY and another engineer is coming out in the week, perhaps this one will actually take his ladder of the van to see if he can get anything. HDAV
well there sending a high team now, so it looks like ladders are coming off this time Chris Ah the "special heights team" never actually met them they are the "legendary people allowed to go up more than 3m" The thing with trees is you may well signal now for a few months but once the leaves are back it can drop significantly so you want a good strong one now. Snow (falling or collecting on the dish) will also stop the signal as will really heavy rain......
