Jet Li's a very good practitioner (national Wu Shu champion 7 times - in a country with lots of competition), but he's not really famed for contact bouts. Bruce Lee had more sparring experience, but apparently heavier fighters (Bolo etc.) could beat him in sparring matches. As anyone who's been in the ring will know, it takes a lot of technique to offset a little strength and weight advantage. Hence why they separate most professional fighting by weight. When we knew we were to put on demo's for charity events,promotional demo's and local country fairs etc we would dry boards in the airing cupboard for a day or two beforehand.Even two inch thick boards will snap quite easily,and look very impressive to boot! Saying that,I once saw our chief instructor Toru Takamizawa 8th Dan(this was back in the very early '80's) knock someone off his feet with a palm punch from no more than six inches away.Very impressive.
