Are you wanting to try wildfowling next season 2013-14?

A few folk have said that they would like to try wildfowling on some of the recent topics on here so I thought I would try and offer a hand if they really were wanting to but wanted a hand to get into it.

The thing is that if you went for a days pigeon shooting you would have to pay a good price (£30 or £40) but the price to join the club that I am in ( http://www.slwc.co.uk/ ) is only fifty odd quid for 173 days shooting in the season on the marsh. Its a no brainer really.

So if you want we could meet up before the clay pigeon shoots that the club has in spring then we could travel there and I could introduce you to the chaps in the club and perhaps have a stroll on Kirton marsh whilst we are there just to help understand a little bit more about it, if you then want to join it will be your decision but I am warning you if you do join you will get hooked, as I am. It took me a few years to take the plunge to join but I wish I had done it earlier.

If the wash is too far for you to travel then I am sure there will be others on this forum that would help you to join their club and offer help such as this.

I was really nervous and out of my comfort zone with wildfowling at first as to be honest I had never been before and its a 2 hour drive there for me then 2 hour home .

Any way, I don't mind helping anyone who contacts me by pm and I am not on the committee or anything and I am not on commission but there are folks in the club who will take newbies out.

Sorry for waffling

Regards

Great offer and well done for trying to introduce new people to wildfowling. I now live in Devon but grew up near Holbeach, so if anyone is thinking about it, go for it! There used to be people traveling for miles to shoot the weekends at Shep Whites, staying in either locally or in caravans, not sure if its the same now?

I will have a few week-ends fowling on The Solway next season (English side) £10 if you have BASC membership.

I have family in the area to go on with so looking forward to it.......at the moment they have loads of geese and a week and a half of shooting left.

As well as being full of wildfowl......Try and get 3 days shooting for a tenner

Its you lot from slack hill that talk funny. I'm beginning to think we should have built hadrians wall north to south to keep you heathens out.

but there are folks in the club who will take newbies out........I hope you have told the guys you have sorted their weekends out for them lol

If you contact basc for their wildfowling permit book, it'll give you a list of all the clubs on the wash. I would recommend a flight with holbeach club as you'll go out with our marsh warden and he is a very knowledge man and has a nack of getting under them!

Where are you going to try Cos?...GWA?

I think that with much regrets from wifes...due to the awakening at silly o'clock in the morning....myself, Oscardad and Passionforangling will join GWA as associates.

Yes Sirs...we have contracted the very famous Wildfowling flu....at the moment there is no cure, but doctors have said its very manageable, wifes have received clear instructions from surgeries, let the man go to the marsh without any moaning or whining, prepare him a coffee before he leaves the house and so on.... :good: :good: :good:

Hi Mark

I have no idea yet. I'll be honest I don't know anything about wildfowling other than reading posts here with interest. One of my shooting buddies was a wildfowler originally before moving south and taking up pigeon shooting mainly now, so I was going to run it past him to see what he thinks as we would join together with one more friend.

We did have a trip to Scotland planned this year but that never happened for a couple of reasons, but we've spoken about possibly joining a club for next year.

Talking about wive's, I'm thinking how to tell the wife I need a whole new kit for wildfowling now :)

A good club that is possibly the closest to you that is open for membership, will be the BWA (Blackwater Wildfowlers Assoc. http://blackwaterwildfowlers.org.uk/). The Blackwater have saltmarshes on both the North and South shores of the estuary and is near to Malden in Essex. From Enfield, M25 - A12 - A414 (about an hour, hour and half travelling time).
