Kes
Dear all, sorry to raise this again but just what is the reason for the latest 4p rise? Even Sainsbury's has gone to £143.99 a litre near me. Shell, usually reasonable is at £144.99 a litre. Any body else not happy about the recent report that generally fuel prices are fair? Who do you trust these days - anyone ? Sorry to be so cynical !
TIGHTCHOKE
Are they PETROL prices you've quoted as I paid £143:99 per litre for diesel at lunchtime and that's normally a few pence more expensive than petrol.

guest1957
The UK has a fairly low base price. It is the never ending tax that gives us the prices we see.

Yes indeed, but that doesn't answer the original question regarding the cause of the recent rise.
besty57
i heard it was to do with speculators on the stockmarket..pushing up prices.
Kes
Sorry, you are right to correct me - I was talking about diesel prices. I should have put FUEL prices in the title - old habits die hard. Cheers
guest1957
Wholesale prices of both petrol and diesel rose in January and this has been passed on. Diesel is more expensive than petrol due to a shortage in refining capacity in the UK.
marktattoo
i heard it was to do with speculators on the stockmarket..pushing up prices. yes but they have used every other excuse many times before, and the realise people dont believe them, such as the exchange rate with the euro and the dollar. Very basically the government could sort out out by not charging the rip off rate of tax they take. Me being cynical would think the oft is paid for by the government, so you guesed correctly that they aint going to bite the hand that feeds them
