A beginners question

No.

In the uk any shotgun having a mag capacity greater than 2 shells (ie 3 total, one in the breech) is considered a section 1 firearm and requires an FAC.

I have to say I have never seen a 3 shot pump, I presume they exist as the mag is simply a tube which, if required, is crimped at the required length to restrict the number of shells it can hold.

Just out of interest, why?

Because if you see my post in the other section. I like guns and wish to start shooting for all the right reasons I promise. However, I like different guns and would like to collect various types of gun. I promise you, you could trust a pump action in my hands more than a few people. I would'nt use it, I would just like to have it.

Does that sound strange, or do other people think like that sometimes?

Lots of people collect guns and never use them, so you're not the only "strange" person out there. If you are only interested in owning a gun rather than using it you can buy a deactivated gun without a shotgun certificate, otherwise get youself licensed and there is no legal limit to the number of section 2 guns you can own, although your local constabulary might start to get a bit jumpy if you put together too big an armoury. :good:

Theres always something strange about pump actions. For some reason people tend to think they are more dangerous than other guns, I dont know why. They are of course exactly the same.

They are slower to reload than a regular over'under, but carry an extra shot, thats all. A semi -automatic also carrys the extra shot, but reloads itself instantaneously, so is more "dangerous" than a pump, if you want to use such terms.

Personally I dont think it makes any difference at all!

The only legal requirement being that you have enough room in the cabinet(s) to hold them all. As to Pump actions, my father-in law has a Mossberg Pump action old wooden stock and fore end, shoots everything with it from clays to rabbits. Good gun, easy to service and clean.

I think pump actions have a bit of a reputation outside the shooting community, as they are the ones you see in all the action films etc. At the end of the day, it's just a method of cycling a round, the same as a bolt action rifle etc. Noting dangerous about them, and no reason for them to be illegal :good:

Rob, I turned up at the last day of a formal shoot in full cammo with a Bennelli pump.

I wouldn't do it again

Would love to have seen their faces, bet that went down like a poo sarnie :good: !

I used my semi auto on are first formal shoot the other day, as i had a mate with me who borrowed my game gun, thought it was safer to use my auto than let him use it, everyone was fine with it, but what a royal pain in the **** autos are for unloading/reloading, never again!

By the way my pal has a cert etc, but his gun is knackered at the moment!
