Pedro
This weekend we went to a friends place up in Norfolk, (Mundesley), and very nice it was too On the saturday we went for a walk at a place called Sheringham Park. This is a privately owned house in the middle of some parkland designed by Humphrey Repton. At the back of the house is a fairly big oak wood with an observation tower in the middle of it, giving 360 degree views over North Norfolk. Once at the top of this tower, I looked out towards the coast and saw a massive flock of something. Up with the bins and I discovered they were pigeons, hundreds of them. I've never seen so many in one flock and having a scout round at the available crops, could only assume that they were eating the acorns from the oaks, as there didn't appear to be anything else for them. You Norfolk boys need to get onto the local farmer up there ASAP P.

Highlander
My permission already just couldn't get there on Saturday as we've got pigeons everywhere now They've been in the trees on acorns, berries etc for the last few weeks but a number of farms here have just got around to some late drillings and there are huge numbers of birds on some fields. Put a rocket over a field just a couple of hours ago and the sky was black with birds, fifteen minutes later they were coming back in. Tomorrow is all set up! The Wileman's
Hey people im new here, so hello to all. Me and the old man are from the midlands area, Me dad has been shooting since he was about the same age as me and recons he's been pigeon shooting for around 25-30 years, he's told me it the worst its been for a while. I myself am 18 nearly 19 and i have been shooting for around a year now but ive been beating since i was around 5 Anyway... At the moment where we are its really mild, today we rode out to have look for whats about, and to be perfectly honest not alot! today we must of seen around, well no less that double figures. What they seem to be on around here is acorn but even then its not in huge quantities. So im just wondering if you could possibly shed som light on what they are on around you or are you just catching them when they go to roost or come out? or are you even decoying? thanks
Cranfield
They still seem to be in the woods, but there are quite a few hitting new drillings, on a farm next to one of my permissions. With the temperature dropping, we just need some dull, windy weather and they will be out on the fields. This bright sunshine, no wind, clear sky, days are killers for decoying IMO. invector
The weather won't make any difference while there are easy acorns and beech mast. When they clear the woodlands, and hedgerow oaks, they'll be back!!
Hunter
Flock of about 200 pigeons on my land sitting in the beach trees, then flying around in groups. Easy shooting, though I lost the permision

dibbz2000
I was out with the ferts on Sat, saw flocks flying over with numbers ive never seen in my life, sky was almost black with them. You see the odd flock of 20 or so now and again round here, but these were 500+ at least!!
Ferretboy111
On the rape here, flocks of around 300-1000, trouble is there is too many rape fields to get a good haul from them unless there are alot of shooters. Alex
farmerguy.22
I sit in my sofa looking out the patio door over the neighbouring farmers rape when i see a flock of +500 atleast take off! Impossible to shoot as there must be over 300 acres of rape on adjacent fields! On our farm we have one patch of about 15 acres where i might be able to shoot but still unlikely to get a good haul. Whitebridges
Pedro, Highlander. I was sea fishing down there on Saturday morning 3 to 8am. I park just off the main Sheringham/Weybourne road and walk down to the beach along the path that crosses the railway line. Nice permission you've got there Highlander, I reckon some of mine might boarder yours. You had a lot of rape last year but not so much this year. Have you got the seaward side of the main road where the Sheringham bird observatory is? A good friend of mine lines in a house owned by the National Trust on Sheringham park. We are old Sheringham school mates, if you need any jobs doing there Highlander, i'm sure John would be willing to help.
Pedro
Whitebridges, you weren't having a brew up in one of the old WW2 observation posts were you? There was a green Discovery parked near it and I'm positive I saw smoke coming out of a chimney. The kids loved the steam train and I must admit it was a bit of a hoot standing on the bridge in all the steam when it went under If your mate lives in those cottages near the farm building, he's a lucky man. Incidentally, we saw a very nice greater spotted woodpecker in an oak just o/s there. P.
