bullet boy
Not sure what the injury situation is with Ryan Jones but surely a place for him. 8? Edd I believe Ryan Jones has still a lot to offer the Lions but I do think they will go with Heaslip at 8.
Poacher
o'driscoll is not worth taking, although he's an excellent player and got the experience, he's to fragile now and practically walking wounded it would be a waste of place imho. In lions tests experience means quite a bit and theres not too many experienced players, most the home nations are developing their squads and are in periods of transition.also given the results ireland have had in the 6 nations he would want to end his international career on a higher note and would be bang up for the games. You find that if the better players carry niggles they are still taken on tours.

Anyone can get injured. Imho it is a bigger risk to leave him behind. If he has to opt out at some stage, they can fly in a replacement. bullet boy
I think O'Driscoll will go cos he's still a World Class centre and has plenty to offer the Lions.Think he could be a midweek captain for the Provincial games.
bridges
Why is everyone putting so much faith in the Welsh? They had a torrid time in the Autumn and they had a fairly average 6 nations, bar the exceptional win against England. Also, Sherridan into the front row? Nick Easter at 8? Perhaps they were the best Squad in the Six Nations and they slammed England in the last and most decisive game. The Lions will need players who are hungry to take on Australia and Wales certainly had that.Yes i agree they did have a torrid Autumn but when it counted they delivered. Personally i like to mix and match and not have too many players from one country. Just looking foraward to selection now and it will be interesting who will be the Lions Captain. rapid rich
I think from the Ireland squad Healey, Best and O'driscoll have certainly earned their place, can't say I'm a Heaslip fan He just doesn't stand out to me

Pity Stevie Ferris is out of action. And as for so many Welsh players, why not? They have just proved themselves the best team in the Northern Hemisphere. AND Warren Gatland knows how to press their buttons and make them tick. He has proved that last year. Terry P
I would be suprised if its warburton, he played much better when the pressure of being captain was taken off him. There was an article in the welsh news where he admited it was nice to be able to just concertrate on his game and doing his job as a player, good as admited he would rather not be put under that pressure again. I think gatlin will choose a non welsh captain just to keep things easy.
bridges
I would consider BOD as captain. He has the experience and he knows how to boss a game. If not, then I think Robshaw as captain. My team would be: 15) Halfpenny14)Cuthbert13) BOD12) Roberts11) North10) Farrell9) Youngs 8) Easter (on top form with the Quins)7) Warburton 6) Robshaw 5) Parling 4) A W Jones 3) A Jones 2) Youngs (or Hibbard, undecided) 1) Sherridan Bit different some other options. bullet boy
I don't think they will pick Sheridan for the 1st Test cos he's not playing at International level-that's my view anyway.Other than that that's a very good side you've picked Bridges. Poacher
Ben 'let me take 10 steps before passing the ball' Youngs.. sorry i never want to see that man in a Lions shirt...Mike Phillips instead Similarly i know Halfpenny is decent but i'd have Kearney. jonesbach
15) Halfpenny 14)Roberts 13) tuilagi(swapping with bod to mix it) 12)BOD 11) North 10) ?!?! Hook(lack of game)/Farrell(inexperience) 9) phillips 8) R.jones / heaslip 7) Warburton 6) Robshaw 5) Parling 4) A W Jones 3) A Jones 2) Hibbard 1) G Jenkins
Aled
You look at the Lions team, and there are some areas where there are quite a few players in the mix, loose head prop, any one of 3, back row & 2nd row, a lot of quality out there, full back two or three good choices. However at 10 nobody really seems to have stood out as "the one". Tight head prop however there would appear to be one clear contender in Adam Jones, so i'm going to throw my hat into the ring, Adam Jones is my dark horse for the test captaincy, purely on the basis at the moment he's the only player guaranteed his place!! Robshaw, Warburton, BOD, Ryan Jones, Heaslip Alun wyn Jones, all are good players and good leaders, its going to be a big call! 30th of April is D Day with the squad announcement and i would not like to be Warren Gatland. Cheers Aled
Poacher
Got to agree with Aled that the selection options for No.10 is lacking which is worrying in such a crucial position
Big Al
I have to say I would go for Cian Healy at loosehead. Hes a good scrumager, hugely strong at rucks and mauls, has a surprising turn of speed, and plays the open running game like a No. 6. As for who plays at 10, I would go for Farrell. Ok, he's not as experienced as some others but he has a cool head and can slot the penalties. If selected, Irish eyes will be watching to see how Heaslip plays without the pressure of captaincy... Terry P
Sexton would be my choice for 10, Farrell seemed to feel the pressure when up against wales, missing what were by his standards very kickable penalties. I think IF BOD goes he may well be captain, I think that will keep all sides happy. Can any of you english lads tell me whats the score with Morgan, is he out for a while, lost track of him when he hopped over he border, great 8 if fit in time. Re Sheridan, why is he out of the england squad, I'm all for blooding new players but the wales pack proved what old wise heads can do for you when the pressure is on. Aled
Much as it grieves me to say this Sheridan kept Gethin Jenkins out of the Toulon team i believe. Has Sheridan retired from Test rugby? Cheers Aled
novice cushie shooter
Squad for the 1st test. Quite an exciting squad. Though there are areas we could be stronger 15 m brown. thought he was played out of his best *** in 6 nations 14 ashton. loss of form but outstanding player 13 b odriscoll c 12 roberts 11 north 10 farrell 9 phillips 8 faletau 7 brown 6 haskell or robshaw 5 dont think theres a out and out no 5 but will go with parling. 4 a w jones 3 jones 2 hibbard 1 healy
