MBW
Been doing some shopping online to beef up my kit a wee bit, and been having a look at pigeon magnets/ flappers although they are out of my price range at the minute I just wondered how popular are they? I shoot round east Lothian in Scotland and going back the last five years I have never met anyone with one of these doodahs, even when I have seen someone at the doos I often stop and have a look thru the binos at their set up, and I have never seen one of these either. So all that waffle brings me to the question how many folk use pigeon magnets or flapper machines? Are they really as popular as meets the eye? TJ91
I used one for a few months with little success. Get good enough results with static decoys and 1 or 2 gliders/floaters. Save weight and money...dont bother. Spend time on recon, right time right place and you wont need a lot of kit.
bongaanie
magnets can be good and they can also be bad as sometime the birds flock to them then on another day they will shy away but most times ill put a magnet out to start and if it dont work i take it down and just stick the arms in the ground so it look like birds are comming in to land near the deacs .but like i said some people swear by them others wont use them so each to there own

Are they really as popular as meets the eye? its not waffle bud, they are a great bit of kit I use one most times the other times I just use a floater or flapper or both, but used right and postioned in the right place they can be the difference between a average session or a good session in the hide
kdubya
never go after the pigeon without one with me if its not working I can take it in, that said if its very windy as in blowing a hoolie then the floaters go out first. KW
shootnfish
I think they are a great bit of kit. There have been times when i have been out and for whatever reason not had a couple of dead birds to start with for the magnet the shooting has been poor then once i have shot a couple get them on the magnet and its made hell of a difference. You said know one else has one round your way makes me think you should definitely get one , because its possible the pigeons in your area wont have come across them before. You could have a right result.
motty
All of my big bags have been shot using at least one magnet. I still don't quite understand why some people say they don't work. In my experience, if the magnet is not bringing them in, then not a lot else seems to, either.
