Report it, or keep my nose out?

Today while phoning some people selling puppies, I called one woman about a dog advertised as a Labrador/staffie cross.

Once on the phone, she told me it is actually crossed with a pit bull terrier, but put staffie in the advert as selling an unlicensed pit bull is illegal.

She knows what she is doing is wrong, but said she had no option.

Would you report this, or just stay out of it?

That is a moral dilemma ,

has to be your choice.

personally - report it.

She does have an option -

illegal is illegal , no getting away from it, but people still do it.

Q. Doesn't the law just apply to pure bred pit bulls
A. No. Cross-breeds and mongrels could be regarded as pit bull types depending on their physical conformation.

Are you guys kidding me, if you put a pitt bull across a lab the resulting pups are no longer pitt bull, and it is not an offence to sell a mongrel.Jeeez its not a Trex crossed with Jeffery Dahmer!

The killer staff histeria on PW is a joke, ignorance personified.

It's an offence to have a pitbull intact so breeding from one will be illegal.

It's been illegal for so long now the breed should be eradicated from the UK now.

Saying that I have owned a few and they have been great dogs.

Personally I would keep my nose out, you have nothing to gain from reporting it other than being a grass

Do you have the same opinion about poaching? No skin off your nose but sure you would report it if you saw it.

if this is an accidental cross its still illegal - she'd have been better of aborting the bitch - so why try and sell them ?

No good purpose intended in my view.

Why would you buy one ? to retreive with aggression or to eat the retrieve.

Loss of certs in mind, you should not support any trade in illegal dogs - its obviously illegal, morally wrong and even if morals mean nothing to you - get caught and your certs are toast.

Why even ask the question ? Avoid /report/ whatever .......

It's not a staff, its a Pitt bull cross. If there was nothing illegal why didn't she just advertise as a Pitt bull lab cross? Also you only have her word it was crossed with a lab and aren't Pitt bulls a cross bred in its self so adding a lab might not change much depending on what the pit bull dog or bitch was crossed with in the first place Edited by IXI KARL IXI

It's a stupid law at best so i don't have to agree to it.

Pits are basically good dogs, it's the owners that need controlling.

What does affect me is the thought of a load of puppies being put down cos some idiot wants a community action trust reward

To be fair,

it`s all surrounding on "hear say" untill proved correct or incorrect.

The moral issue lays with the OP as they have the facts 1st hand,

or even 2nd hand really as they dont own the dogs.

You're right, but the pups will be half lab, longer snout, not as built and will not look like a pitt.

how does that work then, do we get a dead 50/50 pit bull / lab

out of my pair of sprockers 1 would pass as a cocker so easy looks, temperament, just so much cocker, the other has more springer in both looks and attitude, closer to may be 50/50.

If you report it and its not a pit bull she used, no real harm done.

If it is a pit bull it should be taken away under the dangerous dogs act, the pups should be ok as mongrels.

Banned is banned in my book.

Why anyone would cross them is beyond me.
