Some plants can be pretty bad if left unchecked, we had these in our garden and didnt think anything of it, well the rest is history....

 

Be worried very worried them triffids are lethal if unkept...........I have lost a few good freinds dont use petrol you will just **** it off :)

Looks like a dogwood to me. I've got one in my garden. And as far as I am aware they are not poisonous to dogs. I haven't had any problems with my dogs and it's been there for a number of years.

 

I'll try to get some of my own pictures for comparison.

Definately Cornus which is not the slightest bit poisonous to dogs despite it's common name. I would guess that the species is C. sibirica.

 

If you want to manage it properly cut it back to 300mm high in March as it is grown for the colour of it's annual growth which shows up well in winter.
