Reece Posted May 28, 2013 Report Share Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) Looks like a dogwood to me. I've got one in my garden. And as far as I am aware they are not poisonous to dogs. I haven't had any problems with my dogs and it's been there for a number of years. I'll try to get some of my own pictures for comparison. paul99 Posted May 28, 2013 Report Share Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) Tear /snap the leaf in half slowly - if it's dogwood the thick white sap (like a natural latex) in the leaf should hold the torn halves together if you hold it up by the stalk. JDog Posted May 29, 2013 Report Share Posted May 29, 2013 Definately Cornus which is not the slightest bit poisonous to dogs despite it's common name. I would guess that the species is C. sibirica. If you want to manage it properly cut it back to 300mm high in March as it is grown for the colour of it's annual growth which shows up well in winter.
