DJL4
I've been looking around for a new truck as my old one recently expired and I came across this ad > http://motoring.friday-ad.co.uk/manchester/used-cars-for-sale/nissan-navara/2003-pick-up-YI310GG8B < which looked to fit the bill. I enquired via the ad and recieved an almost immediate reply as follows > " Hello,Its still for sale. The car is in great condition and its ready to work, garage kept and accident free. The mileage is real and I never had any problems with the engine. The car looks and works just perfect. This car got full service history.. I bought it from UK and it is still registered here.. I have all the papers of the car in my name, I will let it go for £2,300 delivered at my costs. Are you familiar to eBay? I will list the car on eBay Motors for £2,300 buy it now price and I will send you the link to my listing, so you can buy it immediate. As soon as you will secure the founds to eBay, the delivery will begin and the car will be delivered to you in max. 48 hours. In case you are not familiar with them, please read their eBay Buyer Protection Program and will see that the transaction is 100% covered up to £50,000. You will receive the car with all the documents. As you know, eBay is the best company in online transactions where the distance is a problem. If you are a serious buyer and have the funds available, I will list it on eBay for you, as I have a 100% positive feedback with them.I'm using eBay to sell it safely, since I'm not able to make the sale in person. You don't have to worry, it will be a safe transaction, since it will covered by eBay Buyer Protection Program. Let me know if you are ready to buy it and I will give you more info.I'm waiting for your e-mail.Thank you." Being a cautious tight sod I replied > " Hi, Let me get this right, it has a full service history, 12 months MOT, 6 months road tax and you will deliver the truck for the asking price of £2300 if I use the buy it now feature via e-bay? I’ve used e-bay for years and am familiar with it and would like the further info you mention please. Thanks DaveL Back came the following swift reply > " Hello, yes full service history, 12 months MOT, 6 months road tax.The best way to complete this transaction, because of the distance problem (I'm in Dundee, DD5 3UP) and the fact that I'm pregnant and I can move very much, is to use eBay Purchase Protection Program. They will handle everything for both of us, including transportation and transfer of the car papers to your name. You don't have to pay anything extra, the total price that you must pay for this car is £2,300, including transportation and transfer of the papers to your name. Here is how the transaction will go on:-I will make a private eBay listing for you.-You will have to click "buy it now", fill in the forms and follow the instructions.-eBay will send you an invoice with all the transaction details and the payment instructions.-You will have to secure the founds to eBay.-After the founds will be secured to eBay, the delivery will begin and the car will arrive to you in max. 48 hours.-When the car will be in your custody, you will have a 3 days inspection period. If everything is alright, the transaction ends and eBay will release the money to me. If there is something wrong with the car, you will be fully refunded and I'll get my car back too, without any extra fees.Everything is covered by eBay. As I told you, eBay will release the founds to me, only after your confirmation that the car is alright. Please let me know if you agree with this, so we can proceed right away with the transaction.I'm waiting for your reply.Thank you." I replied with > "Hi again, All sounds ok but with you in Dundee, who/how will the truck be delivered to me and why wasn't the truck placed on e-bay from the start? If I run a HPI check on the truck is it going to be clear?? DaveL" I'm still waiting on a reply.... call me an old sceptic but I won't hold my breath! Thunderbird
Those emails were not written by someone with English as a first language. Not that is necessarily always an issue, but....you know. Deffo the hallmarks of a scam, avoid like the plague.
karpman
Work colleagues brother lost 4.5k on a Audi he was supposed to be having delviered from Spain, had to py the money into a google wallet account and await the car turning up. 10 plate thirty thousand on the clock for 4.5 thou, tried getting his money back bank would not help just refered him to the fraud squad. Seems a common scam and people still falling for it. Never buy a car you can't touch and drive away is the only advice I would give you. Thunderbird
The branch manager of a customer of mine lost £5,000 on a non-existent BMW supposedly in Spain. One born every minute, sad though.

Twistedsanity
When we brought our new shogun last year we found a few adds on gumtree that looked too good to be true , a car that was supposed to be from Hampstead Heath that ticked every box twice yet the first reply we got from the advertiser came from a mobile phone text service and english definatly wasn't their first language. I ran the number plate through the Motor insurance database online and it came back as no insurance which got me thinking , further contact the guy reckoned he was a polish builder and the car was with him on a job in ireland despite saying it was from hampstead and had one careful owner, he offered me a 10% discount for cash of of a £15k car (others with similar spec and year were going for aroung £18k) and said if we had the cash ready and waiting he would drive the car to us from ireland and be with us in a couple of days . So he advertised a car as one female owner living in hampstead heath but was apparently a polish builder working in ireland who wanted me to let him know exactly when and where he could find me sitting around with £13,500 in cash . I had visions of a few less than desirable characters paying me a visit late one evening and a little detective work found 3 more suspicious looking shoguns with the same copy and pasted text local to us , i contacted the seller from a different email address and recieved the same scripted wording back from two of them yet It took gumtree two weeks to remove the adverts from their site after me reporting them which is disgusting for such obvious behaviour, a close friend of mine also works in london and deals with social housing for ex-offenders and apparently it quite common for his "clients" to advertise motorbikes they dont have for a few grand on gumtree then mug the buyer and run off with the money , so steer well clear of gumtree folks its a scammers paradise

mrwabbits
D . Massey selling a tractor in Scotland ? Wouldn`t be related to the Ferguson family per chance ? As for the truck , -- Run - its a scam . Founds are not `funds' - even multiple ones. As for ebay running the transaction - Selling vehicles is sold as seen - Ebay will NOT honour guarantees and refunds on vehicles nor do they handle the transactions by holding cash prior till happy and shipping.
