stavvy
I've got a renewal coming up shortly, I'm tempted to ask for a FAC air rifle and a FAC shotgun. I'd only use the shotgun on bolting rabbits or at our straw bale get togethers. Not really into air rifles at the moment but its a route that I may follow. When the FEO visits and ask why I need them is there anything else that I can tell him to support my application? I have approx 2000 acres, open ticket, etc etc Any suggestions? MBW
Not sure how you will get on with the fac shotgun if you put down those reasons on your ticket the firearms lot in my neck of the woods will only grant them for vermin control on a professional scale ie being a keeper full or part time, and even then it is a right struggle to get it, mine was revoked when I came out of full time keepering. I think the fail safe reason would be vermin control/target shooting for air gun. The shotgun as I say put down vermin ie pigeons rats rabbits and see how you get on. Hope you get it though fac shotguns are great bits of kit
TJ91
I know a good few peiple who have fac shotgun, got with no problens. All used for vermin/pest on farms where they have permission. Decoying, bolting, flighting. 1 of them used 'lamp shy bunnys' as his good reason Don't see the need myself but each to their own.
stavvy
Chances are that if I got a FAC shotgun the novelty would soon wear off. Thanks for the replies
Frenchieboy
Without meaning to sound off putting if you don't know what a good reason for asking for an FAC (Section 1) Shotgun is then you probably don't have a good reason to ask for one. You might get one for decoy shooting (Crows and pigeons) but that is a little "iffy" as they might well "suggest" that a 3 shot semi auto shotgun would do the job (in most cases and situations) and of you could go down the road of trying PSG but they may well want you to be a member of a club that does PSG first! stavvy
Frenchie, Your probably right about good reason and I could get by without it. If I got it after the initial kid with a new toy moment it probably wouldn't get much use. If it wasn't for the renewal I wouldn't go to the effort of applying for it. thepasty
When I put in for variation for fac shotgun I simply put down vermin control and was granted without query.... maybe as I don't have an sgc.

Scully
Quote the terms and conditions of the Wildlife and Countryside Act. That's all that was required for me to be granted. In my experience, unless you're involved in PSG, the times when you actually need full use of the gun will be very rare indeed. Give it some thought as S1 can sometimes be a pain to shift, and therefore can cost you once the novelty has worn off.

Very true;my Model 12 was free! Some of the Benellis are expensive;it all depends what make and model you want.
steve_b_wales
FAC shotgun for crop protection. This is what I was advised to write, by my FEO, and I had no problems.
