The Essex Hunter
Why dont you add them to you pattern? Plenty of sticks in the hedge to make some spikes!! TEH
srspower
Yes we need to get some spikes for propping them up. To be fair though they came in really well anyway, the magnet would of made the most difference as it would attracted birds from further away. aga man
enjoyed your video chaps. the only critisism i would have is to be careful where your muzzles are pointing when retrieving birds. better still leave the gun in the hide whilst you do so. meat skewers or bicycle spokes are good for setting dead birds out. srspower
To be fair the camera is on zoom (up to 14x optical) but I must admit I thought that too watching it back. And skewers is definitely a priority!
The Essex Hunter
Decoying Check List.... Gun Nets & Pole’s Decoys Rotary + spare rotary (in car) Battery + spare battery (in car) Seat Cartridges + a slab in the car Drink Parra cord Knife Folding saw Kebab sticks (for spikes) Sacks for pigeons Phone And a prayer to the pigeon God…. Things not to take... Video camera TEH
motty
I would have left the birds where they were. There is no point at all in picking every bird when they are shot. Pigeons maybe look slightly better when put out with a stick/cradle, but they still work as a decoy when laid flat out.

I guess it is more about breaking the flight line with running out to pick up one shot bird after the next....Yes leave them there, then have a tidy up when there is no room for them to land in the kill zone....spike out a good few as the fresh shot birds do present well when set up nicley... srspower
By the way, i do find it funny that you can't tell your peas from rape. Haha! I am a newbie! They had this wide pair of leaves from quite short and all the other rape looks like grass at that age so I thought it must be peas or something. I must admit the farmer did give me a funny look when I asked if it was peas! Edited June 5, 2013 by srspower

yickdaz
this is not criticism. but you can just lay dead birds out face down on short crops like that without spikes I often do it when birds are coming well on a short crop if you don,t have any spikes when it grows a few inches taller just cut some v shaped spikes from a nearby tree or hedgerow to rest the neck on to prop them up , I do that more often than not it costs nothing and its readily available I agree with dawntredder spend less time filming the birds you have shot , set it out and get back in the hide and that will give the birds and you more time to come in to be shot Edited June 5, 2013 by yickdaz

I understand that you're new to the sport - it comes across on your videos.

jayDT10
If the pigeons are decoying well I'd leave the decoys well alone and not even bother replacing the plastics with dead birds let alone adding more .

That was my first thought...if I was sharing a hide and my mate pointed his auto at me like that his nose would start to bleed very quickly. Safety has to come before everything else.
