bicykillgaz
Shorter is better if you shoot from a truck but other than that its down to preference. My varmint is a 19/20" barrel I've thought about getting it chopped but never got round to it. Your better off getting hold of them both in a shop and seeing which feels more natural to you. Redgum
A .22lr only needs 14inch of barrel to burn up all the powder, anything over that will be slowing the bullet with friction against the rifling. So for handling and performance somewhere around 15-16inch is plenty.
seeker
Had a similar discussion last year ... Seems for velocity a shorter barrel suits a semi auto and longer for bolt action. The only info I remember came from here .. http://benchrest.com/showthread.php?71434-What-is-the-recommended-barrel-length-for-22-rimfire Pronanly many other views of you Goog around: not sure if brer bun will notice ? mickmep
when i researched mine it appears all the powder is burnt in the first 9" of the barrel. a longer barrels is no more accurate, assuming you are using telescopic sights. i'm pretty sure the cz barrels are choked, so i would assume cutting them down would have an impact on accuracy, not sure if you'd notice it though. for my money i'd go for the shortest available in a .22lr. on my semi auto i went for a 12.5" target barrel, and thats pretty accurate, but it should be. Discussed many a time, and despite Derek Edgar saying this is the case, it is yet to be shown, and the only general comment on accuracy after a cut is that it improved! mark@mbb
I have a Ruger 10/77 which is a bolt action and Mike Norris cut that down to 16" early on in the year and it shoots well he has just done my 223 down to 18.5" and that is awesome
B B
I go with the powder being burnt by around the 9 or 10 inch, but i thought rightly or wrongly about the twist rate, and with my Brno 452 at 1 in 16 i went for a tight spot in the bore just past 16 inch it was 17 1/2 to be exact, i cut it crowned it 11 degree for no other reason than i read some place about 11 degree being the best crowning angle, and i then threaded it up, and with the moderator fitted its about as long as you would want it for nice handling in the truck.
