English archer
I live near worksop, and I am a BASC member, and I am sure other members on here will vouch for me.Basically I am looking for someone within 40 miles of Worksop that could offer me a days shooting with a shotgun, rough shooting, hide shooting, anything.I am more than willing to just shoot clays if you supervise, I just have a major urge to go shooting.I had my shotgun certificate refused; as I am diabetic, type 2, so no fits, just feel physically sick if it bothers me.Can anyone help me please? -Mongrel-
Would your best bet not be to hire a gun at a clay ground and shoot some clays?
proud dad
Why not just go to a clay shooting ground?

shaun4860
Refused for being a diabetic? Our treasurer is insulin dependant and has both firearm and shotgun certificates That can't be the reason unless you have other complications?
English archer
Blood sugars fluctuate from 7 to 20, despite my best efforts, as it is classed as unregulated, no SGC. I have done lots of lessons with the shotgun, but that's all I can get around here without a license holder stood with me.
Pole Star
This just not make a lot of sense ? people with far worse medical conditions have firearm & shotgun certs , have you ever held a cert before ?

This may be of interest to you, if this gentleman can win the right to go hunting anything is possible...the man is a hero.

Abacist
Your profile gives no indication of where you are in the country so that limits the advice that people can give as to where you can go and shoot
English archer
Your profile gives no indication of where you are in the country so that limits the advice that people can give as to where you can go and shoot Yes, but the within 40 miles of Worksop, should be a clue. I posted on here when I applied, and admitted, I had had a conviction, after i was assaulted in a road rage attack, but it was the diabetes that stopped me getting the SGC. I have nothing to hide. The Ghost
I think most would agree that you were told it was your diabetes instead of your conviction as a fob off. If I were you I would get in touch with your local firearms dept to tell them you do not accept what they have told you. Tell them that other shooters with the same condition or worse have both sgc/fac...just trying to help mate. You could ask Basc and your local MP to get involved...I would go off it if it were me

If you were assaulted then how come you got the conviction & not the person who assaulted you seems some what odd ? so own up who punched who first . Cranfield
If you were assaulted then how come you got the conviction & not the person who assaulted you seems some what odd ? so own up who punched who first . Are you going to offer some constructive assistance, or just try to start an argument ? If the OP states that he cannot get an SGC due to health reasons, just accept the fact, I don't think it merits an interrogation.
Gordon R
I vaguely remember this or something very similar. Based on what the OP has posted - or not posted, I think he might struggle. Edited June 29, 2013 by Gordon R

Well it seems strange ? maybe you can take English Archer out for a shot ? every one has a fuse even the Pope ! its knowing when to put it out before it goes bang , perhaps he should go & try the FO again & see if they will tell him the real reason they refused him . There has to be more to it some where & if he was done for assault then its pretty obvious thats the reason I have never known anyone refused a cert because they are a diabetic & English Archer dose have the right of appeal like we all do . Perhaps David at BASC can give some advice & after all English Archer is a member so he is entitled to some advice . -Mongrel-
Amzing how people are more interested in his diabetes than his question. I´m guessing he´s hoping for someone to take him rough shooting and lend him a gun to shoot with too. Not something I´d do hence why I suggested shoot some clays. So, clays withing 40 miles, how about within 10 miles of Worksop http://www.copperbeechesclayshoot.com/ , ain´t Google wonderful.

Gordon R
Willpoon - you are too kind. About the only offer he has had or likely to get. Personally, I wouldn't touch with a barge-pole.
Cranfield
Its probably a pity that the only positive offer came after the "interrogative" posts, I would guess the OP lost heart before the second page of the thread. Perhaps someone will contact him direct by PM and work something out.
