Zetter
Ok I admit I think I have screwed up. I got my SGC through and rushed off to get my shotgun I bought it from my local RFD. He filled out all the forms and filled out my certificate. I must admit I forgot about the bit that I had to send the form in to say I have acquired the shotgun as the RFD sent the forms in. After reading on the forum I just realised I didn't send mine in. What the best way to proceed?? Do I just send my copy of the notification in now my recorded deliver? Is it best to phone my FEO and seek his advice?? Thanks in advance Neil

Imperfection
Best thing is ring your licensing dept first thing tomorrow morning and explain you have forgotten to send it in.Depending on how long you've left it-this can be a serious black mark against you. Kes
Usually your RFD will send notification direct of your purchase, and, having updated your cert to include the new gun thats all thats necessary. Check with your RFD first and if he hasnt informed the police, send a notification to him (always registered post) and apologise saying you thought your RFD had notified them. I dont think they will cut up rough. You are new and honest - what can they complain about since you have notified them asap? Unless you get a hard man and your RFD did not notify - 7 days is all you get. Good luck
Zetter
Cheers mate things have been a bit mad at home the past month I post it tomorrow morning recorded delivery I just had one of the dropping of the guts feeling when you realise you havnt done something you should have feel like a bit of a plank at the moment. Edit My RFD did send off the forms as they got me to sign my bit I will ring them tomorrow. Me sending the forms now will make it 3 weeks over the 7 day limit. I am also a bit confused now as my RFD did the notification to the licencing department I was under the impression I need to do it as well. Kes
When I bought my new guns the RFD notified the police - I didnt do anything - they just need to know you have a gun and what type /bore/serial number. As long as they are notified in a formal process, I dont believe you have to do it personally. Let me know what your FEO says when you ring him- after you post a notification, just in case. OR, ask your RFD,if you need to do anything after his notification - he will put ytour mind at rest as he must know the process. ATB. welshwarrior
You and the RFD have to tell your police force. This happens regular and they are also lost regularly. I have sold myself a gun a few years ago and the police denied all knowledge of signing for letters. I believe some force are around 6 months behind anyway. I would send in the letter now and then ring the FEO and apologise I expect he will say don't worry.

Zetter
Panic over! Thanks for the advice all to phone my RFD. I phoned up said RFD who sold me the gun and after a bit of micky taking about my memory he told me that I signed my part and he filled in the details. He posted both his and my declaration off to TVP as part of their normal post so both parts are there. In fact he said they mostly give them to the FEO when she drops in every week and she puts them in the internal post to make sure they arrive. So looks like I am ok but it has been a lesson to double check everything in future! Atb Neil

You cannot allow someone else to do it on your behalf. It would be a handy way for an RFD to make a gun disappear if he sent both notifications. J.
