pigeonblasterian
I am having to think about purchasing an air rifle for some land i have acquired that is in close proximity to housing. I am going to have to keep the rabbits in check.Although it is passed for 22lr and 17hmr there are some areas that are just not safe to use them. An air rifle would be more suitable for those areas. I was thinking about something for rabbits that would be capable up to 50yds and quiet. Would any non Fac air rifle be up to the job or would i be better getting Fac air. If Fac air i would have to apply for it but it would not be a problem. Ferreting the area is not possible.
Clubshot
Regulary take out Rabbit to 50 Metres with my Sub 12.FP HW100 in .177 Joke is that some land is rated for Fire Arms - but not FAC Air Gun - BOB/R
Twistedsanity
Most folk would say sub 12ft lb is only safe up to 40. Yards, some folk say they kill bunnies at 60yards with sub 12ft lb, its a can of worms thing once it get opened
deputy dog
Any of the below brands mentioned make guns that will do the job you require sub 12ft lbs. Air arms HW range Daystate Webley Its all according to budget or whether you want PCP or Springer. pigeonblasterian
Probably should think it would have to be a PCP as it would most likely be quieter than a springer. To get use out of it i would probably use it for shooting crows in the trees in the woods as well.
chrisjpainter
yeah, If you have a lot of rabbits then I reckon your best bet is a pcp. I don't think an FAC is necessary, if your absolute maximum is 50yds. Anything beyond that and it's a dicey game and would be way more suited to your rimfire. Depending on your budget, DD's right about the list of guns. Below the Daystates, the best out there in my opinion is the AA S510, light and easy to use and a super smooth side action; a real stalker's gun, which might be of use if you're bagging crows from trees too? HW100 would be worth looking at, but i didn't feel comfortable in any of the stock options! Cal. wise, if you really are shooting out to 50yds, you really are better off with the .
FalconFN
I'd go for an FAC rated PCP as it will be cheaper and get you to 50 yards much easier. There isn't as much choice on the second hand market but somthing with a high shot count would be best - rapid 7, R10, super 10 etc.
mickmep
if you're going to spend hw100 or AA510 money on an air rifle then i'd go fac, no more expensive if you buy secondhand and you'll get a flatter shooting setup. if you're going to do it cheap then non fac, bsa ultra are hard to beat for the money. there are some bargain fac airguns that come up, i got hold of a fac airwolf with hugget shroud for less than the price of a used AA510, fac airguns prolapse money if you buy new. the fac airwolf is awesome by the way. secretagentmole
Forget Webley as a brand, buy Hatsan, same guns only cheaper!

What circumstances would not allow FAC air but allow other firearms?
