Underdog
Trying and trying to understand my new camera I am drawing the conclusion I don't like it! I think (not being an expert) the lens is not that good. Got these shots but it seems any amount of zoom and it struggles for clarity! Anyway, a green bottle: A blue bottle: And a dislodged thrush chick. U.

welsh1
Don't try and compete with Doc, he will be using DSLR camera and will always get better pictures. your camera has a single lens that tries to be a lot of different lenses, and does it well, but Doc has at his disposal lots of different lenses for specific tasks. the best advice i can give is try not to rely on the zoom but learn to walk closer to the subject, that way your lens can work to it's optimum capacity, and you will see the difference in the clarity of your photo. Don't get disheartened if it was to easy then it wouldn't be fun.

Underdog
Thanks gents. It is a Fugi finepix sl1000. The flys are max cropped all but, the young thrush not so much. On it's macro settings it does not take as good a clear shot as my little Samsung! I understand it is no DSLR but for how much it was I was not expecting the little Samsung to beat it! I know from friends bridge cameras better quality is available for less layout. Don't mis-understand, in no way am I tring to compete with anyone and those shots Doc takes are a very high standard indeed. I would gladly take this camera back if I could. U. Lord Geordie
When taking Macro make sure the camera is on a tripod to take as stable a shot as you can. I find ANY movement can cause issues. Also, make sure your subject has good natural lighting "dont shield it with the lens"
aga man
i currently have a fuji finepix s1500 and it isn't a patch on the panasonic lumix of similar spec i had previously. i am no pro photoghrapher but i can tell the difference. the fuji eats batterys aswell. Underdog
Thanks Gents. I would gladly swap it for a lumix now from what I have seen of a friends. I am about to return it (if I can) and hopefully exchange it. I have continued to use the small Samsung to compare macro shots and it leaves the large Fugi behind! I don't have a tri-pod but have been taking rested shots carefuly. Actually I don't even like the shutter button,,,,it's like a Chinese airgun trigger! Till next time.... U. Milkfloat
Your first two pictures were 1 second exposures, that is very long and will bring in a fair degree of the softness due to camera shake or the subjects moving slightly. Your aperture was 2.9 on the first image - that means a small depth of field so getting the full width of the fly pin sharp will also be a problem. You shot them both at 100 ISO - if you had increased this then you could have increased the shutter speed and shot with a slightly smaller aperture which would have given you sharper images. They are still good shots though.

I have just been trying to adjust the ISO and experiment manualy with the shutter and aperture but for some reason on auto settings inc; Intel' scene recog' it stays on ISO100! I miss film! U. Milkfloat
Check this snap from the little Samsung; And the Fugi; Strange! U. You would need to post the metadata from these images to tell what is going on - they are a simple case of metering being incorrect. The Fuji metered for the sky and the Samsung for the tree. If you wanted to capture the sky correctly then the Fufi performed admirably.
