Rotary battery

Recommended Posts

When able to drive right up to the site of the hide I use a 12v car battery for the rotary, safe in the knowledge that it will last all day.

I hade to walk a fair distance to the hide site yesterday and, with no aternative available, had no option but to lug a 12 v car battery across the fields which nearly gave me a heart attack!

Looking on the sites search engine I see that there are various lightweight options available. Motorcycle batteries look like a good option but they ain`t cheap. I`m told that house alarm batteries work o.k. if you accept that they may not last all day.

However, very little of the info on other threads is very specific.

My question is this - whats the makers name of the best lightweight battery and where exactly can I buy it?

Thanks in anticipation.

Your magnet will draw between 2 and 3 amps per hour, so a 12v 12amp battery will last up to 6 hours.

I find this size to be the best size since it covers most days shooting barring long summers days, plus the weight is reasonable. Keep a spare in the car for when it needs changing.

Mobility scooter batteries are what I look for. Yuasa and Panasonic are two decent makes.

Mine is a Lucas LSLA20-12 12volt 20ah sealed battery. I made a carry harness for it from an old seat-belt (scrapper's yard) and it easily lasts all day on my rotary. Got it from the 'bay - 'cheap-batteries-uk', item number 271136103333 cost about £34.00 inc delivery. I like sealed, because if it tips over, it doesn't leak.

Hope this helps,

Mike.

Go to CAS (Central autos) I picked up 2 x yuasa batts at 7ah spec for £11 each. They've got spade connection lugs too. I sprayed mine nato green as the casing is just off white. Impressed so far. Runs my rotary over 8 hrs... and flapper on its timer has been out 2 days with no recharge so far.

i use one of these. perhaps not ideal but it works very well and weighs half as much as a car battery.

whats more it pumps your tyres up and lights up etc etc.

i didn't buy it for shooting but whilst it was in my van thought i might aswell use it.

i have ran two magnets with dead birds on all day with it. the birds don't mind it being yellow and if they did i would wrap a camo jacket round it. :good:

just connect the jump leads upto your magnet wires and off you go :)

I have changed from 7 to 8.5 amp, they are the same size but it does give me a 1 more hour, in truth the truck is never that far if you only carry the gun and a bag of shot birds to dump them off and swap a fresh battery over grab some more rounds works for me.

If there are 2 of us out the same hide then the 17amp comes with me...

Stubble shooting is the life....take every thing lol
