I've argued before that having a "right" over the land is not the same as a "permission", people still argue about it, so perhaps this question:

Why do clay grounds have to apply for a special exception to allow non-SGC people to use their guns ?

I'm afraid that some will always interpret things to suit themselves and when things don't necessarily go their way they bring out the old "it's a gray area".

It's hardly mind blowing to understand that the meaning of "right" is a title that is legally granted to a person. And for those who will still argue title means a deed evidencing a persons legal right or title to property.

Interest the HO is at present looking at amending the references to occupier in the firearms act, and once a suitable definition has been agreed, a legislative reform order will be sought to amend the definition in the firearms act.

makes you wonder how any of us ever started shooting.... ????

did we all have a licence before we had ever shot a gun ... ???? ???

I was invited by a friend to "have a go at clay shooting" to see if i liked it. He called the clay ground who agreed that i could use his gun under his supervision, but but insisted i had my own CPSA insurance. I now blame him for my new hobby.

My wife and I both have our SGC and have taken several people shooting, all they have is insurance. The clay grounds where i shoot are happy to let them shoot, again under supervision.

It not just clay grounds I've just got an 11(6) for 5 fields where I will be taking people with out SGC to shoot artificial targets. In a few months time they will be shooting Pheasant and Partridge there with no 11(6) and some guest guns will borrow shotguns to shot them.

BECAUSE there wasn't an internet and we all kept quiet and got on with it. Or

did we all have a licence before we had ever shot a gun ... ???? ???

TO GET A licence, you simply popped into the Post Office, paid 10/- and walked out with one.

With the club gun

On the club insurance and licence

We must move forward and do the right thing

This subject goes round and round with much the same end results, its all down historically to the meaning/definition of "occupier", and I don't know if that has been defined further in the new Home Office Guide, but even if it has, it's still a Guide!

:good:
