Graham M
.22 Long Rifle IS .22 Rim Fire  If the land has only been passed for up to .22 Hornet, you won't get a .223 Rem G.M.
decroyffe
Hiya Rob, as long as you yourself pass then you should be ok to shoot anything upto the .22 thats already passed. if the land owner is prepared to write to the police stating he is happy for you to use anything else, ie 243, then the police will inspect the land to see if it's deemed safe to do so. Hope this helps, regards kieran

Hope this helps, regards kieran thank,s Kieran got three farmer,s prepared to write to police stating he is happy for me to use the above rifle,s . local gunsmith,s told me to put up to .243 and say for deer in scotland (HD i no im not welcome lol) on invite
Dunkield
Rob, There is a bit of logic involved in what the FEO will ask, and if there is nothing on the land that justifies using a .223 for he may not grant one, if they have foxes then you are in, but 'I just fancy one' doesn't always cut it with them . . . As has been said, there is a fair overlap in those calibres so splitting them up a bit may also help your chances. told me to put up to .243 and say for deer in scotland (HD i no im not welcome lol)on invite  .243 is good for Deer in England as well, if that helps. decroyffe
Asking for a .243 insn't a bad idea. it's a lot easier once you have a ticket to ask for something less powerfull than it is the increase. i started with a .243. i then changed to a 22 250 and added a .222. Now the 22 250's going and i'm sticking with the .222, has i need nothing more. It's all a matter of personel preferance, if you think you might be intrested in deer, then you must go for the .243 in my eye's. Good Luck with your application, regards kieran

pin
I don't think there is any harm, as long as you have good reason for each, asking for more than you think you will get. The worst that can happen is they say no. Being finikity .22rf doesn't automatically mean .22lr (long rifle) there are other variants.... deadeye ive
Try this lot Magman. .17hmr .22 .233 .243 7.62 I have. LB Bloody hell LB what do you plan on shooting with the 7.62 or should i not ask Never mind the 7.62 ...........what's LB going to be doing with a .233 Basically as for reasons your about there Rob  .22lr using sub sonic ammo for short to medium range ground game and vermin where consistant and regular firing could be achieved and therefore noise will be an issue . .17hmr for lampshy and therefore long range quarry whereby shots will be few and far between so noise as less chance of being an issue . .223for Fox ,no need to bring up wanting to shoot corvids
