steve_b_wales
What are your opinions on the above product? I remember using it many years ago, on a Sierra hatchback that I owned. In my opinion, it did make the engine sound quieter, and there a small increase in power and performance. A retired mechanic friend of mine highly recommends it, and has used it in every vehicle he's owned.
Mike737
Hi Steve, I used to use it all the time years ago, but now with the improvement in modern fully synthetic engine oils, I don't bother any more. Mike.
steve_b_wales
Hi Steve, I used to use it all the time years ago, but now with the improvement in modern fully synthetic engine oils, I don't bother any more. Mike. Hi Mike. I used it because of it's Teflon coating that was supposed to stick to all internal metal parts, thus reducing friction and wear. I was going to put a bottle into my Freelander 2 (diesel) that has only done 34000 miles from when I bought it new. My mechanic friend said that adding it won't do it any harm, and would help protect it in the future. But at £20+ a bottle, I don't know if it would be worth it. Mike737
Hi Steve, yes, that's why I used to use it, I seem to remember that when it first came out they claimed that even if you had a sudden total loss of oil, the engine could run without damage for a few minutes. I never tested it... But that was back in the day when you needed to do oil changes every 3,000 miles, and a de-coke once a year. Now that modern lubricants are so much better - and more expensive, I just don't bother anymore. I don't think it could do any harm, but I don't know how you could tell if was doing any good. I like the 2-stroke in the diesel idea at the moment, made a huge improvement to my Transit van. Less smoke, smoother and quieter, better mpg. Over 38mpg consistently. Wish my Disco did the same... As for long-term protection, who will own the car when it's done 100,000 miles. If it's still going to be you, then may be worth it. If you will have sold it by then... Diesels generally go on and on nowadays. My Transit has 145,000 on clock from me owning it new, no problems yet, (that's blown it!!!), son's Pug 407 has 160,000, ditto. Mike. mad1
I used to use it years ago in the rs turbo and my r5gtt etc but I don't know if it made a difference ? If nothing else I think it was just for piece of mind so to speak ... Mike what do you mean about 2stoke oil with diesel ? Cheers
Fib new
I've used it on a few cars in the past -didn't do any harm, but couldn't see the good it did to the engine either. I also liked the teflon idea. I drive a 200tdi defender at the moment, and I also add 2stroke oil (about 200ml for 30litres) and this does help making the diesel injector pump a lot quieter -a 200 tdi pump rattles like hell. Don't know if it realy does any good to the engine, but makes it a lot more driveable on long trips. Wouldn't use it on my girlfriends td5 though... Much more sensitive engine. steve_b_wales
I was thinking of adding some 2 stroke oil in my fuel tank. But as it was under warranty for the first 3 years, I did'nt want to do anything that could have affected any claim/s. Now the vehicle is 5 years old, I may just try it. Would a modern engine like mine be affected by adding some 2 stroke? It's a 2.2 TD.
castletyne
I use something called DAE put a full can in my tank when its low on fuel for best effect Or add a can straight into the fuel filter my mates garage sells it the taxi drivers swear by it especially just before the mot Available on eBay for £7 a tin
Mike737
My Transit is a 2.2, 07 reg. I picked the tip of using a little diesel either from the LRO forum, or the Transit forum, can't remember which sorry. I put 250ml of good quality 2-stroke oil into the tank before each fill, so that the filling mixes it thoroughly. Costs about £1.00 per dose, but the mpg benefit easily outweighs the extra cost. Tesco do a decent synthetic 2-stroke, but there are plenty of others. Mike

Fib new
Just don't add the red 2stroke oil....
Catweazle
I added Slick 50 to my OHV fiesta many years ago. I was, and remain, skeptical - but after adding it the tickover speed went up to 1500 rpm and I had to adjust it.
B725
There is several pages on the use of 2so on the Freel2 forum.
steve_b_wales
Would adding some 2 stroke oil in my tank affect the running of the engine? Its a 2.2TD and has done 34000 miles. It's not too noisy, but noisier than when I bought it new 5 years ago.
Mike737
Hi Steve, All you're doing is to add a small proportion of the oil that is designed to carry out the full lubrication of a 2 stroke engine, at a ratio of about 300:1 rather than the 40:1 in the 2 stroke engine. It is designed to combust completely, without gumming up the works, and I can't see it doing any harm. Has made my Transit much better, but my Disco is V8 so I don't use it in that. Try it and see! steve_b_wales
Thanks Mike. I'll get a bottle when I'm off night shifts. Is there any particular make to get? I'll be shopping at Halfords.
Fib new
I use the cheapest 2stroke oil I can find -as I mentionned before, not the red one for obvious reasons. The addition of 2stroke makes the dieselpump run more smoothly, and it probably lubricates the cilinders a little bit. In a 200 tdi landrover engine it makes one hell of a diffenrence -but that's because the diesel pump makes a lot of noise.
the crowman
Silly question can you use it in the petrol tank :)
Mike737
Steve, I use a synthetic one, but go for the cheapest I can find. Just got 5 litres for £30.00 off the bay, post free. That will do me 20 fill ups at 250ml to a tankful, so adding about £1.50 to my £100.00 plus diesel cost per tank, but I reckon the improvement in mpg is worth it, then there is the saving in wear and tear, which I accept is not quantifiable. It is also quieter and smoother, which makes for more relaxed driving, and as a bonus, less black smoke when accelerating. The crowman, I don't know what effect it would have mixed with petrol, I haven't tried it sorry, only with diesel, but it does go in the diesel tank, not the oil filler, if that was your question. There is masses of info about its use on other more motoring oriented forums, LRO forum, D2Boys, Ford Transit etc. Hope this helps, Mike. leadbreakfast
I use dura lube, its always made a massive difference to my engines in noise and smoothness. I get a few bottles everytime I go to the states. Use a bottle every other oil change, cost about $20 a bottle but would always use good quality oils. fruity
Put the cheapest 2 stroke I can find in with fuel when filling up my terrano diesel , definately makes it quieter
steve_b_wales
If I put 30ltrs of diesel in the tank, what amount of 2 stroke is recommended?
Mike737
I would put about 100ml per 30 litres. It's not really critical. I put 250ml into my van, and usually fill when it will accept 75 litres, to keep the visits to the filling station as infrequent as possible. Paul223
Just don't use 2 stroke oil if your vehicle has a diesel particulate filter, that would be very expensive
Fib new
This is not true. It will not harm your DPF in what ever way. 2stroke oil burns cleaner than standaard diesel fuel.
