tweedledee
my father been driving shoguns since mid 80s. he tortures them on the farm on a daily basis and the punishment they take is cruel.... he much preferred the old 2.5s and still has 1 of them. basically he drives them till they collapse then he buys another. when I bought my jeep only one choice after seeing the abuse they took..sorry can`t offer more knowledge on the mechanical side
thepasty
can be very expensive if/when they go wrong...

la bala
if you buy one and need parts, try Milner Offroad
tedster
Good motors, I've a 2.8 myself, keep the cooling system flushed and filled with a good quality anti-freeze, 50-50 mix, whichever you go for. Slightly more power and no cam belt on a 2.8 (chain instead).
thepasty
as can anything of course to varying degrees, thats why I said "very". I've got two friends who had Mitsubishis, both got shot of them due to the crazy cost of parts when things went wrong. One of them ended up paying more on parts than the original purchase price... most of the parts were silly things like sensors at £200 a pop. al4x
As said use milners and parts are reasonable, the bonus being you rarely need to buy them
Whytie2697
What are they like for corrosion I have am old discovery just know and was hoping for something that wouldn't need welding every mot and cost a lot for the welding to be done
BrowningDJC
Had shoguns in our family from the mk1's to present day, all been faultless. Milners as the rest say are good for parts, but we have rarely needed them.
Whytie2697
Cheers for the help decided against it as on looking at it found a fist sized hole in the floor just inside the rear wheel arch could be welded but not really got time so decided against it but a very nice truck I really liked it
Axeman1984
I've got a swb 2.8, my ones an (M) reg 1994 so just shy of 20 years old and still going strong! And i do a lot of towing with it, I think there a superb motor for the little money they fetch, a couple of guys on here have said there expensive on parts which is a bit of mis information there, you can buy a complete 2.8 engine for £500 and recon gear boxes only fetch £300, the best advice I ever got was "oils cheaper than metal" keep em serviced every year and they won't let you down, there's a guy in my village with a lwb 2.8 with 280'000 miles on the clock, and thats with the original engine and gearbox, you ain't gonna get that kind of use out of a land rover fact!
