Lancs Lad
Think Im developing a problem... Not had the gun out for a bit but I have begun to notice something that I havent noticed before...... When I am mounting and looking down the rib, my oposite eye seems to be focusing on the side of the barrel instead of on the bead. I am left eye dominant and a left hooker but the right eye just seems to full my vision down the sides of the barrels.....is my dominance changing. Ive had an eye check and everything is fine and funky. Anyone suffered from something similar.....................did it turn into a eye dominance change............ dazzyboi
i have a problem of a similar type..in the means that sometimes when i mount i dont close my left eye, i never used to do it but have only pinpointed recently. Its hard for me to keep a check on it when im out on my own, because usually its all been and done so quick i dont realise if i had closed my left eye and used the right eye which looks directly down the rib to the bead. Could be why im missing some of the faster birds because of the lack/too much lead on the shot.
Cranfield
If you are left handed and shoot with both eyes open, with your left eye being your master eye, then if you close your left eye, your right eye will appear to be looking down the side of the barrels. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with that, unless I have misunderstood what you meant .
Lancs Lad
indeed you have misunderstood. I shoot with both eyes open.................but the main point of focus comes from the right eye.........so I do not have a sight picture down the rail onto the bead, but a sight picture the faces down the right hand side of the barrels..... I found that if I closed my right eye that focus was then straight down the rail onto the bead,,,,,,then found that if I placed a "finger" in the line of vision for the right eye that focus then switched to the left...... I did stick something over the right eye.......not the full eye,,,,,,just a section......seemed to work and didnt end up hampering vision that bad either................. will give it a bash.................... VicW
Lancs Lad,I don't think you'll find you have a problem. If you are left eye dominant and you are looking at the bead you right eye is looking across at the bead also.Because of the short distance involved the right eye will have the right side of the barrels in its range of vision so you will see them.Transfer your focus to something a lot further away and you will no longer see the barrels, look back to the bead and the barrels will reappear. As has been said many times before, don't look at the gun, look at target, which is why gunfit is so important. Big Dog
Ya, if it is a shotgun you are using you shouldn't be looking at the view nail!! You should be looking at the target with the nail just in your perifial sight (can't spell at this early in the day). If you don't like closing you eye just squint a little will give you the same effect with still some vision left from that eye.

P03
LB had it right.........watch the birdie. If you keep thinking about eye dominance and looking at the bead when you're shooting you'll miss every time, all it takes is one glance at the gun and the bird is lost.
