What a fantastic day!!!!

I've been shooting ever since I could remember, but due to work / life commitments i had a break from shooting for few years. So i decided to have a lesson from a professional coach to refresh the grey matter, a friend recommended a good coach to me so i booked a lesson. It was a really good hour and i'm glad that I done it.
The coach asked me what type of shooting I had done before, i told him air rifle shooting as a kid then progressed to clay pigeons and pigeon shooting and the odd day pheasant shooting.
So we got talking about pigeon shooting or lack there of in my area and low and behold before i knew it he invited me out for the afternoon on wheat stubble. (What a touch!!)
I set up my hide in a really good spot and waited. (not for long!) Before i knew it the birds were coming in to the decoys from all angles really well and the "grin factor" is amazing. Why did i have a break from shooting? I'm still asking myself... Still grining writing this... 68 was the picked up count after 4 hours. :yahoo:
I hope to get out again soon... :shoot:

I wont put his details on the net without his consent. I am not sure if he is a member as he didnt say.I dont know what pet name is attached to his vehicle but if he's anything like me it would be called "you b*st&*d!!!"

We did have a good chat about the lack of pigeon shooting in my area and potential ways to try and obtain a permission as it is very closed door and i dont want to keep travelling long distances any more. Something closer to home would be advantageous... So here's to alot of door knocking and looking forward to another day in north herts over stuble..

Drive down most country lanes in Hertfordshire and you see pigeons or crows. But as has already been said, it’s like a closed shop. The knock backs I’ve had go something like this.

“Too many foot paths”

“You will upset the locals”

“Don’t want all that banking”

“Have too many shooters already”

I even offered to pay if he would add me to the list. He replied no without hearing my offer.

How much would you pay would you pay for permission? Based on say 50 shoots a year. Or do you think it’s the wrong way to go about it?

Hi, i would never pay to shoot pigeons as history dictates that it is suposed to be the poor mans shooting which obviously helps the farmer and shooter.

Was the coach a pigeon watch member?

I am sure other PW members would like to meet up with him, are the contact details available for publication.

Did the Disco have a gas ring in the back and was it called Dennis as I think I recognise it

I have spoken to him and he has asked that i dont publicise his details on here as he is very busy at present, but also said that if you do know him to give him a call...

Fill your profile,s in so members know where you live and may be some kind people on hear will help you get some shooting in. :good:

Yes, good advice Alan, but it's obviously fallen on deaf ears..?

There's literally loads of pigeon shooting available in Herts for those who are prepared to work at it, and take note of advice from those that are in the know.

I lived in Hertfordshire for about 25 years and for the last 10 years have lived in south Lincolnshire, believe me the pigeon shooting is loads better in Herts than my part of Lincs. You would not think so with Lincs being mainly agricultural but I think that is part of the problem, the birds have too many acres to choose from. There are a lot more trees in Herts. which helps along with the smaller fields etc.

It took me quite a while to get shooting but you do have to work at it. My first success came when I met a local farmer along a footpath whilst walking the dog and got talking to him, he let me have a go on one of his fields where he was having pigeon crop damage. I was so pleased to get to shoot that I wrote him a letter of thanks after the day.

Delighted to get the letter he rang me up and said I could shoot on his farm anytime I liked.

I got more shooting through networking , anytime it looked like I met someone who might be linked to farming I would bring the subject up.
