M.A.Gnun
i have a shoot that i use mostly for decoying, but from the 1st of sep i will be after canadian geese and duck , im assuming that the reason for steel shot is to not pollute esturies and water ways etc ,BUT i wont be shoting them over water il be shooting them over fields where their flightpaths cross nowhere near water , so why do i need to use steel ? or can i use lead !!?? White Lodge
Ignore the bit about water. If you shoot ducks and geese, no lead.

superspark
Its probably a very good idea to research what pray you will be going after first so you can use the correct gun and ammo. This will keep you on the right side of the LAW and keep the anties off our case as they are just looking for more ammo to through at us, lets not hand it to them on a plate. As said, in England you must use non-toxic shot on all wildfowl, wherever they are to be shot. Just out of interest, what gun will you be using, as some are not proofed for steel or have 3" chambers ?? vulpicide
In Scotland you must use non toxic over water but lead is ok inland. BUT you MUST read and understand the general licence before you shoot any birds as it is part of the conditions of use of the licence. David BASC
Just to clarify the above point, you cannot shoot on, over or into any wetland in Scotland with lead, regardless of species. Wetlands, in this context, are defined under RAMSAR more info here: http://www.basc.org.uk//en/departments/game-and-gamekeeping/game-shooting/lead-and-nonlead-shot.cfm. Regarding the fields that but up to the foreshore , take care than spent shot does not go over your boundary. David
superspark
If your shot is going to land on wet lands then you can not use lead no matter what you are shooting at. Simples.

HW682
a FAC 8 shot hatsan magnum 3inch steel proof barrel , has all the markings You could use that to shoot Canadas under the terms of one of the General Licences, but it would be illegal to shoot duck or other wildfowl. some info near the bottom of this page http://www.basc.org.uk/en/departments/game-and-gamekeeping/game-shooting/shooting-seasons.cfm
