deaquire
Hi all - I had 15 minutes this afternoon after a glorious afternoon in the sunshine cutting logs so thought I'd see what was around in the nearest field. I got a couple of rabbits with the .17HMR but both were lifting with fleas so unfortunately they were left in the hedgerow. What do you guys do with them if there is an abundance of fleas (see second pic)? Burn, bury, eat, leave, sell? I thought about using them to entice a fox tonight but being knackered I thought twice. I know that leaving them is bad but there's no way I was carrying them back across to the house, I'd have been crawling and itching for a week! The first was a kneeling shot, using the fence post as a rest at about 80 yards. The other a standing shot at about 25-30 yards. Hope you're all having lots of shooting success! ATB Dave That second pic, the fleas have spread out but when I first approached they looked like dirt, they were quite hard to shift with a stick when I checked but then moved around. Makes my skin crawl. Edited September 8, 2013 by deaquire
FalconFN
I don't worry about fleas, if I did is never take any home. They soon jump off a dead host and they aren't human fleas so don't worry.

They soon jump off a dead host and they aren't human fleas so don't worry. although I dont worry about fleas, they will still bite, any flea can only breed via the host animal, but thats not to say they cant and will happily feed on you, as for jumping off, again fleas will happily live on a dead host for up to 48hrs, best to skin them asap

channa
They won't do you any harm. If they bother you skin it in the field pal.
pigeon controller
Just hang in the hedge with a bailing twine loop in the shade and they will leave the body when it cools and pick up on your way home.
deaquire
Every rabbit as fleas and i have never had any on me and i have killed hundreds i think 6ppc is a bit of a girly and wiasting good food like that You've never had any fleas on you? Not one? When my dogs run through the field they pick them up real easy and they're more than happy to bite me. Additionally, fleas can live quite a long time without a host and breed in thick pile carpet. If you unknowingly take them into your home it can be quite a problem. Just hang in the hedge with a bailing twine loop in the shade and they will leave the body when it cools and pick up on your way home. Sounds like a better idea mate
