al4x
I'm with me you need to either quit or change how you get business as that is where you are failing. It's not just paying money to online advertisers its a case of looking outside the box, I've a friend who has a company doing airport runs only and he makes a nice tidy living from it only limited by the fact he likes it a certain size and turns down work to stay that size. His is mostly companies and word of mouth next to no advertising, in your case I would be leaving piles of cards in all the local travel agents, and anywhere else I could think of. I've recently changed from my own company to an employee due to my business partner retiring and not finding anyone suitable to take it on with me, and actually I now get holidays and walk out the door at 5.30 and that is it which is a revelation. Though I have gone to a fairly small company it has highlighted the fact that at the moment the businesses that work are the ones that find the high net worth clients. I'm now involved in shipping stuff for some seriously wealthy people and though they do have high expectations they don't mind paying for it. guest1957
If a business isn't working, ask why. If it can't be fixed then move on. If you think there are options play the game required to make it work.

It's alright if you are up the top and can keep finding the mugs to drop off the catalogues on doorsteps. TaxiDriver
Well, Seems like I cannot win I got home at 2AM after a call out tonight, got up at 8AM and someone has left an anonymous letter in an envelope under the windscreen wiper. Basically addressed to the owner/driver of vehicle AB12CDE, Please refrain from parking this vehicle in this road as it is too big and causes an (Illegal) unlawful obstruction and prevent neighbours access also obstructing access for emergency vehicles (Contrary to the Law) Also the vehicle is aesthetically unattractive in this enviroment............ there was more but all along a similar theme.................dont park this truck in our (Their) road Anyways, Im out the front talking to my immediate neighbours who's drive I do block, but neither have cars and both have given permission for me to use their drive to park my own personal car on if ever needed, low and behold, 2 double crewed police cars turn up, one with a double helping of constables, the other, two PCSO's Anyways, saved me ringing them, showed them the letter, one copper laughed and said "well if anythingis criminal, its the lack of grammar" lol basically, the 2 Constables surveyed where the vehicle was parked and how much road it did or didn't take up, conclusion was there was no obstruction BUT, he did say that I need to check wwith the local city council for any local byelaws that might prevent me from parking there. At work today, has had an anonymous call by someone complaining and threatening to bring down the full weight of the law if one of his vehicles is parked in the road, I've been told that if I cant work something out then I cant take a truck home and thus I cant be employed in an 'on call' capacity. ergo ===== No Job !! Ring your local councils parking enforcement and find out if there are any restrictions preventing you parking there. If not ask for written confirmation and give it to your boss, surely he'd rather not lose a driver over a whingeing old gasbag.

There are some loop holes where a vehicle can be parked on the road if the driver is working away from home overnight but not every night in the same location.Even then they can not be parked on residential streets as most local authorities have a 5tonne max weight limit. check out vosa's web site www.vosa.gov.uk where it should give you details of who to complain to it will be dealt with quickly vosa take all breaches of operator licence conditions very seriously
TaxiDriver
Artschool, You aren't my neighbour are you ? Its a 7.5ton Mitsubishi Canter tilt/slide recovery truck. My boss's business has been operating this way for nearly 40 years, a few of the drivers have had similar 'love letters' at different times. Have spoken to the local council planning dept' AND the county council highways authority, neither of whom are aware of any specific byelaws and have stated that IF there was any parking and/or weight restrictions in place then the road has to be marked up and signed accordingly. TaxiDriver
Well its been a while on now and no more love letters, I do however park the vehicle around the back in the communial paking area (which is otherwise largely unused) WHEN the neighbours haven't parked in the junctions preventing me from turning in/out of there. last month I earnt £400 working part ime (roughly over 13 days), this month in 6 days I've earnt approx £440 So its helping to get me back in the black
Dave-G
Good for you mate. I've just paid my private hire insurance - over £1600 with max no claims etc. Now the car is in the gearbox shop again - wonderful Jatco gearbox recon will be about £1700 to last another 70K miles. Licence due again at end of the month + CRB check. Peeps don't see all that when I charge them £10 for a 15 mile round trip with them only in the car for three miles.
