Gordon R
A good friend of mine has one of these. After doing a few jobs on it - not impressed with the vehicle at all. His Airbag Warning Light has started to blink. Got rid of the light by switching ignition on - AWL comes on - as soon as it starts to blink - switched off. Wait 5 seconds - repeat a further twice - switch off - wait 5 - warning light blinks slowly. Switch off - wait 5 seconds - job done. It came on after 5 miles. Just removed it again. Does anyone know if there is a particular weak spot / common fault which causes this? Any advice appreciated.
aris
If you go to a certain car supermarket in London, there are literally hundreds of the things on sale. Sounds like people don't want to keep them after 3 years.
Gordon R
They sell by the truckload, but I never understood just why. They aren't that bad, but way over priced. You can get far better for less money.

fruity
No sure if it helps answer your question , but a friend of mine works at our local Nissan dealer , so put the question to him regarding faults on these . He claims the main problems what they are seeing on a fairly regular basis in cars with low mileage, some in warranty, some not , are Power stearing problems Damp / water ingress issues Rattles in the dash Rear suspension wear

Gordon R
malkiserow - my wife runs a Suzuki SX4. They do come in 4 wheel drive and aren't savaged by the motoring press. The dimensions are very similar to the Qashqai - Suzuki is slightly taller. I have never owned a Suzuki before - my wife's car is our 105th - I am on car 107. The Suzuki is well put together - no rattles or squeaks. It is leech like around corners and brakes superbly. My wife drives autos and hers is a 2WD petrol. 120bhp - fairly nippy and 45ish to the gallon. I can't say what long term problems are likely to be - nothing in the press and the car has only done 19k. In my book, they are superior to a Qashqai in just about any comparison you would care to name, but Suzuki never really advertised them - unlike Nissan - who hammered the TV with Qashqais. The cost was something like 60% of a Qashqai - so a complete no-brainer.
88b
A lot of Nissan stuff now is Renault. As for the air bag light, a lot of times this can be the wiring under the seat especially if the seat has been moved backwards and forwards a lot. Ernest
We looked at these when getting a car for the wife after getting rid of mine. After looking around we crossed to the dark side and found at the Hyundai ix35 and have found it to be a fantastic car for us. It's our main car for weekends going away and whatever else we throw at it as a family and haven't found fault with it yet.. No doubt there will be issues with it as with all cars but for the money we paid it has most toys and does the school run nicely.!
Gordon R
88b - checked connectors under the seats, when the light came back on. Light hasn't yet returned - fingers crossed
malkiserow
The only reason I thought Qashqai was a possibility was the +2 version to get the 7 seats. But I have serious concerns now. The Hyuandai SantaFe is also on my test drive list. I'll look at the SX4 but I suspect it is a 4 or 5 seater only.
Gordon R
SX4 is 4/5. There is no 7 seater option - it isn't that big. The Qashqai +2 doesn't look to be a genuine 7 seater to me. Chevrolet do a 7 seater Captiva 4 x 4.
malkiserow
Chevrolet do a 7 seater Captiva 4 x 4. Blimey, these look cheap compared to some others ...... is this the same as another vehicle/made by someone else?
Gordon R
It is a Vauxhall Antara - although Vauxhall don't do a 7 seater.
Catamong
It is a Vauxhall Antara - although Vauxhall don't do a 7 seater. I think you'll find that the Captiva is from the Daewoo factory, I leased one a few years back from Leaseone on this forum. It ran OK, but was a bit thirsty, the 2L diesel only returned about 26mpg. I'm looking at the Mazda CX5, it gets better reviews that the Hyundai and the Kia Sportage and the fuel economy is exceptional, even allowing for the inflated figures put out by the manufacturers. Woodbepigeonshooter
Had a Qashqai Tecna 20Diesel with optional 4WD or automatic when they first came out for 3 years and 110,000 miles. Averaged 42mpg only serviced in that time and tyres replaced. Never tried it off road just edge of fields stuff but in the snow was great and never an issue but probably tyres helped. Del T
Steer clear from the captiva. FIL has one and its always going back due to problems, last one was all the dash lights went off. The mechanics don't have a clue when things go wrong with it and have to wait for head office to get back to them for a possible fix. It must have been back to the dealer over 6 or 7 times. Its only over a year old.
Hamster
If you buy new and change every three years then buy what you like otherwise the choice should be limited to Toyota.
