chacotawas
Hello all, I'm being offered a 12g. Remington 870 Super Magnum pump action- 3 1/2" chamber- for £230. It'd be picked up, so no RFD fees or carriage costs. It has only one choke- half-choke, the others having been lost. I would much appreciate your comments on this as a buy. Also, can you tell me, please, where best to look for purchase of additional chokes for such a gun?

chacotawas
Thanks very much, gentlemen- that's just the advice I hoped to get! I knew you had one, Kiffy- I think I've read your praises of the Rem870 elsewhere on the forum. I'm going to see it on Saturday. Is there anything in particular I should check? chacotawas
Dont worry about the choke, i have half in mine and it is all you will need. Chris Hi Chris. Thanks for your helpful- and encouraging- reply. Do you mean half-choke is all I'll need for all purposes- decoyed pigeons and geese? I ask as a rookie (who, I suspect, may be in danger of over-complicating things!).
kent
1/2 otherwise known as Modified is what most use for geese being the effective max for steel. consider cartridge choice for producing a quicker or slower opening of the pattern (it can make a fair difference). I like the Kicks aftermarket chokes personally and there is one to fit if you don't get on with the half
delburt0
A ad in wanted should source the chokes or send wabbitbosher a pm, as for the gun I have a 1187 I no it's not the same but none of my other guns have been out of the cabinet since I bought it, it blinds the beretta 302 I had, dare say its the best gun I have ever owned. Dekers
Chokes from Remington UK or their distributors, third party chokes available no doubt. I don't think there is any particular issue with the Remington or even the price, it is Pump action though, fine for many but not exactly popular in the UK. 3 shot Semi will cycle faster if that is what you want, but it should jam less and cost less upfront!
