stuart21
Hi there, I am looking to buy a house in spring next year and will probably need to sell my car to release some cash. I have a Discovery 3 which I absolutely love and it's the best car I have ever had, but I will need the cash. I will need a temporary car for 6-9 months to tied me by until I get a new Discovery, but my budget will be limited and I'm not sure what to get. I don't really need an off roader for the summer, but do need a big and reliable car as I have 3 dogs and travel a bit with work. I was thinking of an old discovery or shogun, but I am not convinced that with a £1K budget, I would get a reliable one. I am also thinking of a Merc E class or Volvo V70 estate as these will be big enough and should be reliable for a short period. Ideally I would like another 4X4, but I'm not sure it would be the right choice, what do you think? Thanks in advance!
Luckyshot
For a budget of 1k don't even think about another 4x4 unless you are handy with spanners. For 6-9 months I would go for an estate car but even still for 1k you are not going to get much of a car unless you know what you are looking for. Hamster
Get a well serviced manual 1.6 Renault Scenic Y reg - 03 avoiding moon miles. Their only real weak point (regardless of internet Renault experts) is the engine coils which are a 5 minute £25 DIY or £40 friendly mechanic fix. They have huge boots suitable for dogs and easy to resell as they are family cars.
Mungler
Get a diesel estate, german or jap. With a new house comes lots of jobs and tip runs.
welsh1
An old volvo estate that has been serviced well will do the trick, the older ones are built like tanks,or a skoda diesel estate again built to take a beating. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201310019053599/make/SKODA/model/OCTAVIA/postcode/sa726rz/radius/1501/quicksearch/true/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/price-to/1000/advert-type/featured-listing/dealer/351905/usedcars?logcode=flp
