fenboy
So following on from all my van disaster / what new van posts . It is proving a real headache to find another van with reasonable mileage within my budget seen one or two but nothing stands out. So I have been looking around on what else would fit the bill for my bucks and the picasso seems like it might do the job . I have seen some 2005 models with the 1.6HDI engine and very low mileage ( 45k ish) for around 3200-3450 K and there is no VAT to pay on top. One at that price has full leather , cruise control , and all the trimmings , still do around 50mpg. The rear seats come out leaving more than enough room for my shooting and fishing gear , dogs etc. I could perhaps get a van a little newer with a few more miles for a tad more money but have no specific need for one . So anyone have a picasso ? and how do you find them ? , I all ready run a 2011 citroen c3 1.6 HDI and it has been great.
Paddy Galore!
apparently, (just what i've been told by a mate) they're a decent motor, rust isn't a problem unless they've had a smash, and as reliable as anything else out there, i'd have one and bin the tranny if i thought i could get away with it and didn't mind looking like a chancer

Alanl50
Im on my 3rd Picasso, been driving Citroen diesels for 20+ years Im well happy, exceptional MPG They have a few faults like all makes, I take them up to 200k and then chop them back into Citroen, worse one for the xsara Picasso so far for me is the gear cables 2 off them the outer cover splits/ breaks down lets the water in and freezes in the winter you cant change poxy gear till it warms up, lesson dont park in gear lol. Lord Geordie
I believe there has been issues with the 1.6 hdi of the 407 et al. I believe the oil breather or feed pipes block up and cabbage the turbo. Once this has occured you need to fit new oil pipes and turbo at great expense! This is the reason I didn't get the 407 when I got rid of the 406 2.0 hdi.

The only fix is a new Oil pump. filters inside the sump. New oil pipes. New Turbo. Very important to use the right engine oil. Over a grand of a job. Parts are £950 alone. The old 2.0 HDI is a lot better lump.

defender
I've got a 2005 1.6 petrol and the sills are on the way out. They look bubbley and are soft and crispy to the touch rest of the car looks nice though. Edited October 10, 2013 by defender
digger
I have a 57 1.6 and cant fault it, do 350 miles a week and it returns 44mpg . Loads of space with the seats down, clever fold / remove system. Wide enough to take a pallet. Starts and runs a dream, comfortable, good view of the road and plenty of storage front and rear. bad points - had a 2.0 Alfa before and God the citreon is dull ! Boring to drive, boring to look at. With the Alfa I would look at it and smile, with this I pretend its not mine. Does what its meant to .

Even my old Pug 2.0 hdi was well over 50mpg on a run. I thought the 1.6 would be much better on fuel!.
