Paul223
Thought there might be a few interested in seeing some pics of a strip, clean and tidy up of a no4 I acquired from Mick some weeks back. Strip down to the bare action, all ultrasonically cleaned in a bath of brake cleaner before being polished within an inch of it's life! Everything out hammers, firing pins the lot! The blacked parts were reblacked by barrel browner. And the rebuild Most of the metal work back together, Mick said in the advert that the wood was not nice and to be fair the wood work looked like it had been treated to a coat of fence paint! looking forward to see how much the wood has improved with the love shown to it by straightshooter1 When the wood comes back I'll do a before and after pic. simonix
Looks great! Good job! I've just done something similar with a Miroku 7000 I bought recently. I wish I'd taken some before and after photos now! Will be good to see some final pics once the stock is back on....
aris
Didn't fancy doing the wood yourself? :-)
Paul223
The checkering was worn through here and there and I don't have any checkering tools, otherwise yes. I do like the look of Sacha's work though so will be interested to see how it turns out, it looked like very plain grain coated in shed coat ! aris
Have you got any before pictures of the wood, or the whole gun? I'd love to do a restoration like this some day.

shoot and be safe
Looking good there Paul Any news on the stock, Will it be back in time for the Grouse? Have you put that walnut somwhere safe, Should be dry by 2019
Paul223
Yeah there's a good chance of the stock being back, walnut is in the garage, but I don't think it's the best place for it as the timber joists are at 18% and they've be there since 1999! Will update the walnut topic

Paul223
Metal polish and elbow grease It took a while, kind of sad to remove the remains of the colour case but the rust pits caught the eye, the pits are still there just shiny

AlistairB
Looks good, just done my dads stock and action on his No 4. Didnt do as much work on the action as you (tidy up and regrease leaving the case hardening on) but the stock came up well. Took an age to get the original finish off it though.
