scolopax
The antis are trying to stir up opposition to an application for a crown shooting lease on a Welsh Estuary http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/oct/11/llanystumdwy-shooting-conservation-oxymoronic follow the link at the bottom of the article just shows what we are up against
kent
Talk about the full story! what about the disturbance of all them Walkers exercising? What new gun legislation? Why will Mallard dominate? My bet they will fly inland to the fresh water they actually prefer. We don't shoot many woodcock on saltmarsh and to cap it all even the RSPB issues leases on its ground to wildfowling (which we have to prove sustainability) If you want to ruin a sight for nature, let the General populous loose with their kids and Mutts and assorted disturbance, rubbish etc.
Flashman
This is the sort of thing BASC & CA should help. The chipping away of shooting opportunities will end with Shoots only on private land. This will increase the costs of shooting and reduce the numbers of members for those associations. tlennox
What a bunch of narrow minded idiots that have commented on the guardian website. I bet most are feline lovers who's domestic pet does far more damage to british birdlife than any law abiding gun owner. Disgusting left wing propaganda. Scully
Look lads, and I mean this with the best intentions;it is all well and good having a rant on here,I enjoy a good rant as much as the next bloke, but unless you let the people who read this article know how you feel, then all they have to base on any opinions formed,is those of the antis. You're talking to pro shooters here, you need to be talking to the antis.By all means have a rant on here, but if their rantings go unopposed, then they've won. scolopax
Anyone know anything of this particular estuary, in particular if there is any wildfowling history on the site, even if it was/is regarded as 'free' foreshore shooting ?? guest1957
It is interesting that even the RSPCA seem to acknowledge that UK based waterfowl shooting does little to population numbers. This piece is based wholly on sentiment with no facts, but is written as though ecological damage will occur.

By way of example the entry on Pintail: http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/P/Pintail/ Yes, I shoot on RSPB leased land. If you want to mess a plant, bird, animal or fish up destroy its habitat- why would a sportsman ever do anything but protect his sport and his quarry's home? and for many of us its a way of life. Walkers etc. will build paths and tracks, put in picnic benches, build toilets and cafes etc. Generally they try to improve it till its broken basically like the town they were trying to escape from in the first place. That will put the ducks off along with their mutts preventing successful nesting and the foxes and rats drawn in by their rubbish and bins.
